5.8k Upvotes

I was going to ask the artist themselves, but I don't think their DM is open, as I am still waiting for a comment

I am referring to as the mouth shifting as camera rotate

was this achive by: 1. Shader 2. Driver that tie to camera positioning 3. shape key or something else?

I really wish to know more of this!

Unsolved Need help recreating mouth effect

Thumbnail

4.2k Upvotes

i saw this model in a demo a while ago, ive been struggling to recreate the effect of the mouth being within the silhouette for a while now.

i have previously tried using backface culling on the silhouette with an inner cavity containing the mouth and teeth, but this approach doesn't support lighting.

my current version works but it relies on the compositor, preventing me from viewing it in the viewport in real time.

the face will be cel shaded with a basic lighting value segmenting setup instead of a face sdf with fake lighting.

i intend to export the model to godot, recreating whatever setup we can come up with in GDshader.

Unsolved How can I rig a 2.5D face in this way?

2.8k Upvotes

Hello, I've been working on a 2.5D face for my models and I couldn't find a tutorial for the rigging method used in this video. I already have setup of a face that uses a shrink wrapped planes but I honestly have zero idea on how to rig it to behave similarly to the example in the video.

Unsolved 3d anime eyes (Concave Eyes)

2.7k Upvotes

I really want to create 3d anime eyes with this method. I believe it’s called the concave eye method. I’ve watched the few videos about it but still do not understand how to create it. How would I make the iris and the sclera part? Even after watching this video on tiktok and trying it myself, I still don’t understand.

I’ve also watched this YouTube video: https://youtu.be/JGhb_s8VA9E?si=uGkDsxISfPEKUWV1

Solved How to achieve this 2D flattening effect?

2.6k Upvotes

I have found this LinkedIn post of a model being flattened, to give it that 2D look, or the Orthographic look. Recently I was just adding solidify outlines around the models, but adding this will make it look a LOT better for my style of animation. But I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do this? I'm more in the animation dept, not the technical (it was hard enough for me to figure out how to make the outlines).
If someone can guide me on how to achieve this, it would mean a lot.

Solved What's this type of texture effect called?

2.0k Upvotes

Want to do something similar to this kind of green screen effect, but over an entire mesh in blender. A while back I found a tutorial but now I lost it and can't remember what this type of effect is called 🥲

I also need it to be visible from all angles if I rotate a camera around my mesh

Unsolved How would you go about making a stylized skin shader like this?

Thumbnail

1.4k Upvotes

I've watched abou 1000 different tutorials about making stylized shaders, but they mostly cover either realistic skin shading, overwatch style skin texturing or Straight up anime Cel shading. None of them get close to this específic style of shading that you see in some never gacha games.

I already know How to set up a Basic Toon shader, and have been able to improvise some shaders that get Close to this, but nome of them managed to hit the Same result. I know a decent part of this final result are textures painted by hands. But as you can see in the Second imagem there are also shadows and highlights created by the shader itself.

I am trying to recreate this AI generated scene in blender. It is still VERY far from done but I am trying to create the god rays.

How can I make mine come through in the same way they are coming in the reference?

I've tried tweaking the volumetrics and the lighting but can't get there.

Unsolved How do you start modelling something like this?

Post image

I've been having trouble trying to figure out how this ear model by uni15g on Twitter is so simple in terms of polycount yet i dont understand how he even starts. Does he start off with a simple shape and model it out with smooth on? How do you even plan out how the loops flow? where does he decide to place the 5 poles? Any advice will be appreciated 🙏

Do you guys have a technique to do the god rays with different colors shaped as window in eevee? I already tried to lowered the alpha and increase the IOR and do experiments in Principle BSDF but I cant achieve this kind of rays. It is also for animation my character will pass by that window and the rays will hit them. Is this achievable?

Unsolved Tips for making fluffy trees? First two pics are models by me, last three is what I want to achieve

Thumbnail

My canopy looks "sharp" and not fluffy, it's especially noticeable when moving. The trees were made in Blender with geometry nodes and the bush was made entirely in TreeIt. The problem with the trees is obvious: I shouldn't have used "cross" planes for the instances, but when I try to make canopies with a single plane it looks empty unless I crank up the polycount and it still looks unappealing to me (the bush is one example).

The trees that I see other people make look very fluffy and soft, and I can't understand what I'm missing. I try to replicate every step from Youtube tutorials, I tried making canopies with TreeIt, with geometry nodes, tried shaping them myself, I use the sphere normal dara transfer trick, I invert the back-facing normals, but my trees still look ugly. What am I doing wrong and what should I be doing?

Unsolved Would anyone be able to recommend any good tutorials on retopologising/rigging nugget body types?

I've made this quick model and tried to retopologise it but getting a decent rig to work is proving more difficult than anticipated. Also ignore the ass topology; it's cursed.

Unsolved While studying a model online, I found something strange. Is this normal?

Hey artists, I'm a beginner in Blender and I'm studying some things using models from other artists. Today I took this model, and when I applied the texture to it, it simply appeared like this. All orange and without that glow from the first photo. Analyzing and seeing it, I realized that this was a layer on top of the model, which hid the real colors underneath. But I still don't understand why this is on the model, is this some shading setting and it simply didn't matter when I opened it, or did I do something wrong?

If you want, I can send the link to the original model, but I'm not sure if it's allowed to post links here, so I prefer to ask first.

OK, I am being sarcastic but I'm also interested in hopefully getting some advice/leads. I've done enough Blender by now to realize that this is probably half a dozen things, but which things would you use to make it and why?
