Session Sky Team - We made it!

Played Sky Team with my daughter, and what a ride! Things started going pretty badly, and for a moment, we weren't sure we'd make it. But somehow, we managed to pull it together and land the plane successfully!

An absolutely amazing experience and such a fantastic game every single time! It's especially perfect when you don't have much time and want a quick, engaging game that delivers plenty of tension, teamwork, and memorable moments.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for a brilliant two-player board game!

The latter missions are very stressful

Yes they are! About two sessions ago, my husband and I got into a fight over it because each move needs to be perfect or else it's over.

The same for us! After each later mission we let out a big sight of relief. That bloody black die is a killer!

It's the timer. I don't need that kind of stress so we just skip the timer. I'm not trying to be rushed in a board game because that's the opposite of fun.

Agreed. We skip timers in nearly all games that have them.

You mean the fuel tank rupture? Not even that.

He means the real-time module where you’re limited to 60 seconds per round

My wife and I LOVE this game! Such simple rules, but tons of opportunity for communication, teamwork, and nail-biting decisions!

Same here. That moment you realized the dice hate you... pure panic. Best two-player game we own

It's such a well made game. If I had never found unstoppable I'd say it's the best 2 player game out there.

Ohh Hadn't heard of unstoppable, checking it out

Make sure you like deck builders! And it's not an easy game to win but def one of the most satisfying games I have ever played

I do like deck builders!

So good. If you get the expansion, the first RED mission is a doozy. The last BLACK one in the base game gave me and my wife trouble as well. Not to put down the GREEN and YELLOW airports. Those are great for playing with youngsters and for a more relaxing experience. I just love the wind stages, where the plane is getting bullied, and acting like I have to communicate with the passengers that everything is normal while we're panicking up front. "Nothing to worry about folks. Flying backwards is completely normal."

If that black is the one I’m remembering it’s the one trying to land at Antarctica, that one took my friend and I like 10 tries to get. Iirc we calculated it has like 3 options for a coffee dice. Everything else must be placed exactly correct.

I'm glad people enjoy this game. My wife and I played this on her birthday last year (or maybe a couple years ago now) and couldn't get into it. I'm not sure if we were doing it right to be honest, it's pretty straightforward. The game made sense it just wasn't that enjoyable, didn't seem too challenging.

Try it on bga maybe it will help you understand it better

Same here. We tried all the different difficulties, adding all the modules and maybe played about 10 games before we felt we experienced everything the game had to offer and sold it. The choices didn't seem that interesting especially since 2 out of your 4 dice are always locked into the speed and axis slots (and we found it seems beneficial to always play one die on the axis early every round). Also, we both like banter when we play and that's difficult in a limited communication game.

We're definitely in the minority though.

Same for us. It feels like it plays itself, not much of a planning. Dice placement becomes obvious, you get to a point where you lose just because of bad rolls.

Great game, lots of possibilities and difficulties

I've been eyeing this one for a bit. How long and difficult is it to play?

Very easy to learn, and rounds tend to go pretty quick (I would say 5-20 minutes). One of those games that manages to be surprisingly deep and varied despite pretty simple mechanics.

Early missions are pretty easy, but some of the latter ones are brutal and often require multiple tries even if you know what you're doing. Some of the later missions tend to be a little bit luck based but the vast majority of them are beatable even if you get unlucky a few times, as long as you're in sync with your partner.

One of my favorite 2-player games!

Thanks! Have you tried any of the expansions?

Yes - I own Turbulence, and have played about two thirds of those missions so far. I really like it as well! My advice would be to get the base game, see if you like it, and if you're itching for more... get the expansion for new tracks and modules.

Had my 14yo play with Grandma. It got (quietly) tense a couple times but they really enjoyed it. I think they play 4 or 5 green and yellow flights.

How old is she? I'm always looking for new games to play with my 5 year old

Sky Team is rated 8+ and I'd say that's about right. The rules themselves are simple but the limited communication thing is tricky for younger kids, they need to grasp that you can't just say what you rolled. My kid started really clicking with it around 7 or 8. At 5 you might have more luck with something like My First Castle Panic or Outfoxed.

This is my favorite co-op game. Also, the expansion is awesome too.

Sky Team with family is a masterclass in teamwork: one person handles the controls, the other handles the suspicious silence after a bad landing 😅 What mission did you pick for the first flight?

Ah man, I thought you made skyteam

To my British eyes, the first photo looked like you absolutely hated the game.

Sticking those 2 fingers up to the game like that is roughly equivalent to giving it a single middle finger.

u/TeetotumGameStudios Sky Team 23h ago

Hahaha... well no, that's just my daughter photo bombing.

Well, we just call it peace in the rest of the world

If the gesture shown here is aimed at the camera with the palm, then definitely.

If the gesture is aimed at the game with the back of the hand, then it would be open to the interpretation of the individual. To some people it would be a peace sign. To others it would be an offensive gesture. To a third group (which I suspect is the global majority) it would be a meaningless gesture, but close enough to the peace gesture that they could probably understand the user’s intent was.

I love this game, but i accept that many many passengers have died because of my incompetent flying

Hahahaha, collateral damage while having fun one might say 😂.

Wait till you discover eternal decks. Also a huge fan of sky team, but we now have a new favourite.

There is an expansion out! We just got it and the short time in the boardgame store, the display went from one original game and two expansion packs to nothing.

We played 3 games the first day and have plans for more this weekend!
