Wow... I bought this when it first came out on VHS tape. This must have been digitally remastered and enhanced, it looks great!

It looks like it was filmed yesterday, pretty incredible.

and then they added a commercial every other minute. Seriously, wft.

Also, seeing all these legends, most of who have passed on, makes me tear up.

That show can bring some tears... As of Sinéad O'Connor. I would be ashamed of myself for booing. I doubt Bob approved.

"Don't let the bastards get you down" -Kris Kristofferson to Sinead in this concert. Speaking on behalf of all reasonable people imo.

The video quality here is so crisp it almost makes you forget you're watching something shot in the early '90s.

How I feel every time I watch a crystal clear Sopranos episode knowing everyone watched it on cable on a CRT tv.

It may have been shot on film instead of videotape

It was recorded using NHK Hi-Vision MUSE, an early analog HD system, captured with Sony HDC-300 Saticon high-definition cameras (last Sony HDVS camera relying on tube technology), supplemented with Sony HDC-500 CCD cameras. This setup supported the early Japanese Hi-Vision analog HDTV standard (1125 lines / 1035 active resolution).

The O’Jays were absolutely incredible at this show! They recorded one of the best interpretations of a Dylan song and nobody ever mentions it

My dad watched this sooooo much when I was younger.

Ah, but I was so much older then, I’m younger than that now.

Such amazing quality, does anyone know what the source of this video is? There was a 2014 Blu-ray release but I’m not sure that release was this good?!

It's sourced directly from a digitised copy of the NHK master tapes in Japan. It was recorded using NHK Hi-Vision MUSE, an early analog HD system.

As for the equipment used in the concert, the video was most likely captured with Sony HDC-300 Saticon high-definition cameras, supplemented with Sony HDC-500 CCD cameras.

For those wondering about the image quality: NHK, from Japan, made a “parallel” shooting of the whole concert, using prototype Digital HD cameras. This footage was used on the BluRay edition of the concert.

The production team combined seven high definition cameras with four NTSC cameras in two production switchers to produce the event.

If you're interested, this paper talks about it, alongside Woodstock '94 and Sting: Live from the Hollywood Bowl (both were also recorded in high definition, but have never been released in HD): https://vu-la.com/papers/950323_Woodstock94.pdf

damn...I'm old. I taped this onto VHS the night it was broadcast. Then I made a cassette tape from that to listen to in the truck.
