Software SoundTouch app alternatives

Post image
40 Upvotes

This is just a start, but I have added a SoundTouch app alternatives page to the Bose Wiki.

There, I listed current known issues, added info shared by the app developer Christian, u/nachtfux997, and included known solutions.

I separated the solutions into two sections.

  1. Ones that allow you to control the SoundTouch systems directly (e.g. AirPlay, 3rd party apps, Home Assistant, etc.).
  2. The second section is for 3rd party devices you connect to your SoundTouch system's AUX input.

I am hoping that the community will help expand the information on the Wiki. Not only to help guide SoundTouch users to viable options, but also to help guide developers on what SoundTouch features are missing. So that some, if not all, can be replicated once the app goes away.

This specific post is about alternative SoundTouch solutions.

  • On Jan 7, 2026, Bose announced that they will update the app so that it would continue to work after their servers shut down. Though without built-in music streaming capabilities. Here's the main conversation around this update.
  • The original conversation, from Oct 9 2025, about the closure of the SoundTouch app is located here.
  • If you wish to sign the petition asking Bose to reconsider, follow this link.

Community Feedback Request Suggestions for Bose reddit FAQ Pinned Post

There appear to be a frequent amount of posts that ask the same/similar questions and inevitably receive the same answers, or answers that are simply links to the last time the question was asked on the sub.

So it might be easier to have a pinned post with the most "Frequently Asked Questions" for people to read or other redditors to reference if similar questions get posted.

To make this manageable, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Place suggestions in the comments: Include the question and answer. Make sure sure this can be understood by anyone and include links to resources if needed within the text.
  2. Only ONE FAQ suggestion per comment: If you have multiple suggestions they need to be in individual comments so that others can comment and vote on each one.
  3. Only one post per suggestion: If someone else has the same idea on the same subject then please read what they wrote and if needed, please politely comment on what they wrote and make suggestions that might help improve it.
  4. Vote for the best suggestions: This is to thank reddiors for their suggestion and will help other redditors see (and if needed comment on) the FAQ post. A high vote count is not needed for an item to be included.
  5. Please stay on topic: Please limit all off topic conversations and if needed please make another post if it is not about aiding in suggestions or improving already suggested FAQs.

So please post below suggestions on what should be placed in a pinned post.

Wearables / Open Bose actually improved this product!

Post image
• Upvotes

When I initially switched from iOS to Android, I got the Bose Ultra Open Gen 1s. I'm not gonna sugarcoat it, but they were ass. The audio wasn't loud enough in busy areas, and the connection cut out so often that it made you wonder if most of the budget for this product went towards the artists and the 15 second Mustard beat in the advertisements.

After 2 weeks, I switched to the QC Ultra Earbuds Gen 2 and faced connection issues as well, and then settled on the WF-XM6s. They've been great! However, I sweat a lot during exercise, and I am anxious about the foam eartips getting damaged, so I ended up getting a second pair of exercise earbuds: The Skullcandy Push 720 Open. As I used them more, I remembered why I loved the Ultra Opens so much, as well as why I need noise cancellation in the first place.

I find myself using transparency mode all the time in my day-to-day in comparison to ANC. But when I'm at the gym, on flights, etc. I like to use ANC. Yet my earbud stack were ANC earbuds for everyday use and open-ears for places where I'd want ANC.

With the release of the Ultra Open Gen 2s, I figured I'd give these a whirl and return them if I didn't like how they were in my one-month return window. And I can confidently say that ALL of my issues from last gen have been completely fixed.

Shitty connectivity? Now it's seamless.

Proper multipoint? You got it.

Wireless charging? Amazing

Better microphones? ABSOLUTELY!

Louder and nicer audio? 110%

However, these aren't perfect. For $299 ($323 with tax), I should NOT have IPX4 just because these are fashion focused. I am a fashionable dude, but I'm also a huge tech nerd. There is no world where that makes sense. This goes for Sony as well though, so 50/50.

There's also the issue of in-ear detection. For some reason, these don't have it. What makes it really weird is that the earbuds don't seem to turn on until they're in my ears. So either I'm imagining things, or it's just turned off. This also seems to be an issue with open-ears in general, so no comment.

Find Hub support is still in-progress unfortunately. Given that my experience with the Bose app is significantly better than before, I'm trusting them on this. There was a post on here talking about how the software engineers were hot garbage? I'm a computer science student myself, so I was quite taken aback. It might've been a shit post, but they're improving the software stack from my perspective.

Overall, I love these things. It does feel a little strange to depart with the WF-XM6s for these, given that the XM6s have the best noise-cancellation in the industry, but using Nothing Ear(3a)s for the gym isn't something I'm opposed to. I used the originals for a while before losing the left earbud, and I found them to be great. Bose needs to keep this up! I love this new audio market.

Hello, Ive been using the quietcomfort 20 for years now since 2014. Ive loved them so much especially for my pc setups for gaming and work. My main concern is has anyone tried them out for gaming and are they good for hearing foot steps or subtle sounds, (surround sound). Also would want to know if their is an improved difference in sound quality from the quietcomfort 20. Thanks

Software Multi-point Connection and USB Dongles

• Upvotes

I want to set up a dongle for devices other than my phone. That way, I won't have to add more and more Bluetooth connections to my devices (QC Ultra Earbuds and QC Ultra Headphones, both 2nd gen). When I do get things to work, they connect to the dongle, and multi-point connection seems to work as intended. However, after I wait a bit (most recently a little over 24 hours), it won't reconnect until I remove the device from the "Source" section in the Bose app and try (a few times) to re-add it. At first, I tried this with the Bose-specific dongle they made for NC Headphones 700, and it would hardly ever work. So I tried the Sennheiser BTD 700, and I'm having these issues. I just can't tell whether it's the app or the devices themselves. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S24+. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Headphones Bose QuiteComfort SC Headphones

I bought Bose QuiteComfort SC Headphones Gen1 (New) for USD 150.

I am not familiar with Bose Headphones, I use their sound bar. I thought it was a good deal for a headphone I could use during travel. I use Jabra earphones and headphones for work and as my daily driver.

I know Bose makes Ultra version and Quite comfort already has Gen 2.

I was wondering, if anyone has used it how is the sound quality and ANC on these Gen1 headphones. there is no spatial sound on this version which I am fine with it.

And at $150, is it a good deal? I have option to return it with in 30 days.

Would greatly appreciate the feedback.

Home Audio Bose lifestyle ultra home theater DISAPPOINTED

I have had the Bose ultrasound lifestyle home theater since Aug 2026. (bass, soundbar, and 2 side speakers) and it is so buggy! I have a Sony OLED TV with PS5… and the home theater will randomly not work… it is plugged into my EARC HDMI and Passover is enabled. the Bose app says it’s on but there is no sound coming from it so the tv forces the sound back into the tv. I have called support before and the sleep function is turned to “NEVER” sleep yet the problem persists. The only fix is if I unplug and replug it back in.

Headphones Bose QC Ultra Headphones Gen 2 - Depth Disappeared

I bought the Bose QC Ultra Gen 2 not even three weeks ago. They were great, until they weren't. It's like the sound lost all depth almost like a setting was changed. For example, the power on-and-off sounds went from a rich orchestra sound to shrill or tinny.

I've tried resetting them and calling support and they just want to replace them, but I'm concerned the same thing will happen to the next pair.

I use them plugged in with my lenovo ideapad and also my dell work laptop. I've heard that they can maybe be stuck in a headset or other mode from connecting to the laptop?? Any ideas are welcome.

Wearables / Open Am I the only one who hates the Ultra Open Gen 2 design?

I love my gen 1s... My parents wanted earbuds for running, so I was going to get them a pair, but they took one look at the gen 2s and said they wanted ones that looked like mine LOL

Honestly, same. What’s with the crystal-looking thingy....?

Now all I can find are used gen 1s. Really wish Bose had kept the original look.

Headphones How to not update Bose QC Ultra 2nd gen?

What is your advice to not update the firmware on Bose Quiet Comfort Ultra Headphones, 2nd gen, while still being able to use the app?  I have multiple devices that I switch between, so fully deleting the app would be just as inconvenient as letting the firmware update and having to always use the app to switch between devices. The app is a very convenient way to have only one device connected, while not updating the firmware means I can hear what devices the headphones are connected to, and also switch between devices without the app.

I am on an android phone (pixel), and if it helps, I do have shizuku installed.

Best I have found so far is Shizuwall. If you have used this app to disable internet connection to the Bose app, has it worked for you in the long term?  Other app I found was De1984, if anyone has experience with that.

Appreciate any advice or feedback.

From reading other posts I know that just disabling background data usage or disabling background battery usage does not prevent the firmware from updating. And always having a VPN running can eat away at the battery.

Headphones Is it time to replace the pads? - QC ultra 2

I bought a pair of QC ultra2s in June. I wear them most days. I have noticed that the noise cancelation is not as strong (notable difference during flights). When i turn my head or any kind of pronounced head movements, the seal breaks. When i yawned on the flight it also breaks the seal.

I was thinking of wicked cushions. Any thoughts?

Other Companion 5 user of 15 years – what's the best replacement now that the Companion series is discontinued?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi All,

I've been using the Bose Companion 5 as my desktop speakers for about 15 years and loved it. The tiny satellites on the desk plus the Acoustimass module on the floor were perfect for my setup. Unfortunately the bass module has taken water damage over the years (floor mopping, plus a beagle who decided it was his tree when young). The cabinet has swollen and opened up air gaps, and the bass isn't what it used to be.

As far as I can tell, Bose has discontinued the entire Companion series and doesn't make a desktop 2.1 system anymore. So I'm looking for advice from people who have been in the same spot:

  1. What did you replace your Companion 5 / 50 with, and were you happy with it?

  2. Is there anything in Bose's current lineup that can realistically fill the desktop role?

My setup: a desk in a small work room, used for music, YouTube and some movies at moderate volume, connected to my computer.

I'm currently considering the KEF LSX II (possibly with a sub), but I'd love to hear what other ex-Companion users ended up with.

Thanks!

Headphones Bose QuietComfort creak making me go insane

Hi,

do you know any fixes? It's the QuietComfort (no number) model, not ultra. It's only the right cup. It's like a clicking noise that appears every time I move my jaw, slightly move my eyebrows or anything else. It's like plastic creaking or crackling. I noticed the fork-like plastic cup holder creaks when pinched but I don't think it's the culprit. It feels like something inside. It's worse on some days than others. Please 🙏🙏🙏

In-Ear 2024 Quiet Comfort Earbuds - How to add 2nd device for Multipoint?

I just received a pair of the 2024 Bose Quiet Comfort Earbuds 2024 version from work.

They work great for my needs as the ANC is good and so is the music quality.

I’m trying to get them to multipoint connect to my iPhone (currently connected) as well as to my iPad.

I go to the Multipoint icon on the app and the switch is activated, but I can’t see anywhere on how to add in the 2nd device. The user manual and YouTube videos seem to have the old app as it doesn’t look like the most recent one that I downloaded.

Has anyone been able to add a 2nd device using the updated app with these headphones?

The noise-cancelling wired earbuds were supposed to release on October 15. Were they delayed or something? Best Buy says "sold out" and Bose says "notify me."

Bluetooth speakers Trouble connecting my speaker to my desktop computer

I have a brand new Soundlink Flex (2nd gen). I have no trouble connecting it to my cell phones, it is straightforward as usual. However, when trying to add it as a new Bluetooth device to my HP EliteDesk computer I get a window asking to enter a PIN to be able to connect. Has anyone been through this and have a suggestion ? I tried many PIN numbers of 4, 5 and 6 digits without success...

Bose Quietcomfort Ultra 1st Gen Earbuds

I have Bose Gen 2, Bose speaker. Bose was like a close friend to me.

This QC Ultra 1st Gen pair was bought a year ago and is out of warranty. I barely use this like 4/5 times in a month, the earbuds is still in mint condition. Suddenly the right earbud is not working. When I place the right earbud in the case it gives solid amber, which means the earbud connects to the case. I tried resetting, disconnecting every possible way but the right side is not working anymore. It's dead. This is so pathetic for 200$ earbuds. Now it's time to move on and find something new. It was a good journey with Bose overall. Thank you Bose!

Headphones Why are Gen 1 of QC the same price as Gen 2?

I am contemplating getting a pair of the Quiet Comfort headphones but I don’t understand why they are both the same price! Like what is the difference between both? Should I just get Gen 2? Both are at $359 btw
