Walt got his happy ending. he plotted and planned try to do what he needed to do with the rest of his money.. after hector and gus then with gretchen and elliot. Then the Nazis.. He basically saved Jesse's life. He got rid of Lydia for being the insidious bitch she was. Then relished in the fact Skylar and walt Jr would be taken care of. He died knowing that at least something he did made sense, his life made sense in that simple moment he realized somehow his life was worth it. He got what he wanted and what he deserved.

I think he also enjoyed that the saving of Jesse was a last minute whim, available to him as an incidental of conquering the nazis. Ie, he could focus on the manly glorious goal and then achieve the compassionate goal without having to admit it was super important to him.

I think Walt found his closure and his happy ending. Since the injury he sustained was accidental and his original intention was to turn himself in before exterminating the neo Nazis, if he survived he probably would have turned himself in and die happy. He had nothing to lose by then. Nevertheless, when you think about it - the bullet shot was fate giving him a mercy kill since death by cancer can be very painful.

I agree this was a happy ending for him. Besides what everyone else mentioned, he hated being considered "ordinary". I think to him, with all his brilliance, dying unknown and unimportant pained him almost more than the cancer itself. By dying a drug lord, he was at least able to die as someone memorable.

Freeing Jesse was the final piece to eternal peace.
