Transvaal Neighborhood in Auderghem
Hello! We’re interested in buying an apartment in the area to be our home. We are a family of 4 with 2 kids ages 4 and 6. We walked around the neighbourhood and loved how quiet it seems to be! Also loved the park nearby.
For those living / have lived in Transvaal in Auderghem, how was your experience? How is the neighbourhood in terms of safety? How is the commute to town and the walk from the tram/metro at night? How are the schools around for the kids? :)

I live not far from there, and our kids went both to school there from their youngest age up to high school: it is a very peaceful and lovely neighboorhood with small kids. Close to the forest, parks, some small shops and the Adeps sport centre in walking distance, and two supermarkets not far. The connection to downtown is convenient with the metro, the main downside is that you may have to walk uphill when you walk home - check also for the bus 41 then.
You also have good schools in the neighborhood. I would hate to recommend one school above another, but there is no school with a bad reputation there.

You’ll probably love it. I hate it because I live near one of those schools and all I hear is screaming kids all day. (Kids here are on the playground half the school day). There are also no cafés nor decent shopping in the neighborhood. We do have a so-so bakery, a pharmacy, and a good restaurant, Sesame. The parks are nice, if a bit of a walk, depending on where you live.

Oh no. As I thought 😅 This is a concern because the apartment is right by the school!

It’s mostly an issue if you’re trying to work from home. If you work all day, not so much as they’re gone by 1800.

Amazing restaurant ! You should also try the Transvaal comptoir (for week lunch) and Les Deux Petits Diables (very good pasta)

Can´t speak about the schools, but I live pretty close and the area is one of the quieter ones in Bruxelles. It is safe and there is a lot of greenery (for Bruxelles). A lot of shops and also some gyms. Metro line number 5 goes there (coming from the city center) and there are trams/buses nearby as well.
