Lomtalanítás van a belvárosban, csak gondolom fogalma sincs róla

Bulky waste. Today in Vi kerulet.

It's probably "lomtalanítás", best translated as bulky waste handling. Each municipal government once a year makes this to help people get rid of their excess stuff.

Yes. But there are other ways to do it. Sometimes you cannot even park a car or pass on the pavement

Do not park a car in the inner city, use public transport, park the car in outer districts in dedicated places. The inner city is not intended for cars. Due to the parking cars, bulky waste handling is also harder as the trash trucks can't properly stop to collect the waste. I'm sure there are better ways for this, but they must meet the criterias of the current one: free for the people living there otherwise they wont use it; centralized enough for the municipality to efficiently manage; capable of handling couches, fridges and other big items.

No shit, but where else would people place all that?

Containers on a bigger parking place or pick up with a truck when each building would request it.

There are a few days every years in each district where you can throw your bigger trash out and they clean it away the next day. Its called Lomtalanítás, you can find gems there, I find it really good.

It's the official annual bulk waste collection system, known as lomtalanítás...

"Every year" meaning you've lived here for years and don't know ppl put their stuff there to be taken away as garbage. There are set days in each district.

Some cities do have a thing where you have to phone the garbage company and they come out. I think it'd be a pretty big hassle in Budapest though, and I don't see what other options we have. Just gotta deal w it for a few days.

It happens every year, they will probably collect it next morning. It’s not nice, but this is how we deal with old stuff.

You can leave Hungary if it triggers you enough to make a post about something you’re aware of that happens every year.
