Problematic Cat Owners WHY!!

This is post argument with my gf. I’ve posted about this before but I just don’t get it!
Recently her cat has “claimed me as his favourite” and this has made her very jealous. I DIDN’T ASK FOR THIS!Even though I don’t care for this creature living in my home I’m not a cruel person so yes I spend time with him and play with him.. the problem is now somehow I’m the one always cleaning up after him, trying to train him to not jump on the counters with his shit paws, vacuuming constantly cause he sheds like crazy and feeding him because nothing seems to bother my gf.
HES NOT MY CAT SO HOW HAS THIS BECOME MY RESPONSIBILITY. She hardly spends time with him so no shit he likes me more. We moved in together only a few months ago (she had him 5 years prior) and after that short time I’m his favourite?
She claims she “can’t live without him” but YOU DO LIVE WITHOUT HIM! I swear people just get cats because they are “cute” and “low maintenance” but don’t actually want the responsibility.
Anyone here with more sense than me thinking about moving in with their partner and cat. DON’T!

She simply dumped the burden of caring for the cat onto you. All that talk about the cat choosing you is complete nonsense, considering it’s been with her for five years. You just devote more time to it, so it focused its attention on you.

Also rule number 1, cat ladies are a red flag.

Yup I wish I joined this subreddit sooner. I clearly didn’t realize all cat nutters were this way.

I realize I don't hate cats, I just really fucking hate most cat owners. Obnoxious ass people.

Don't they always say that we have control issues because we don't like fiercely independent animals like cats? Lol. And here she is, folding under the pressure of a cat choosing you over her. Oh the hypocrisy

The cat owners that don't do this are in the minority. I allowed my mom and her two cats to live with me for a period of time and, I shit you not, I was the one to clean their litter box 90% of the time. The entire reason they get cats is because they're too lazy to take care of any other animal, but then they even get too lazy for that. It's ridiculous.

It’s actually mind blowing. Wouldn’t you rather just not a have a pet? This seems like psychotic behaviour. I was always cat neutral before this cause I have never really been exposed to cats prior. Wish I joined this subreddit before trapping myself in this situ

Honestly, it’s not your pet so stop taking care of it. Obviously don’t be cruel to it but it’s not yours. Other commenters are right, they’re not low maintenance and it’s just not fair that that’s been put on you. And don’t wait for her to notice either, flat out tell her you’re not doing it anymore and make sure you follow through on it. If it’s her pet it’s her responsibility.

Cats really aren’t low maintenance so I guess cute is why people get them lol

Not low maintenance at all! Maybe cute for 2 minutes a day and annoying af most of the day and night. The tradeoff is not worth it at all. I’d rather my peace.
