Vent The Outdoor Cat Thing

Why did I see people on here bragging about the fact that they hardly had to clean their cats box because it was going outside. WHERE outside? Just their yard? Or did it go into the neighbors yard to poop and pee?

Why is it normalized in our society to just let pet cats roam around unsupervised? They kill the local wildlife, they do their business in other peoples yards/garden beds and they’re at risk themselves. It’s all bad!

I’ve seen the argument that you can’t control wild animals from coming into your yard but cats are not wild animals so what is the correlation? If this was another pet doing this they would be pissed but since it’s their kitty it’s fine and dandy? It’s so inconsiderate of others.

I know if I posted this anywhere else I’d be flamed so I came here.

and reproducing in huge litters! always reproducing like viruses!

they get fed and protected and nourished, so they will have strength to eliminate other species that are both valuable and beautiful

Given my personal experience, it's probably going outside to torment the neighbors and whine whine whine at their door trying to force their way inside as if i'd ever let them and as if i'll ever hear that noise and think "oh, a poor baby!" instead of "get that torturous thing away from me and my ear drums by whatever means possible!"

Here in the Netherlands people are so lazy, they love cats because it means no responsibility. They let them roam free all day, hurt birds, hunt mice (disgusting), pee and poop everywhere (our shared parking lot is full of cat poop). It’s a pet for lazy people.

On top of it spreading diseases and parasites (especially bad if its on a farm). And sadly most people still view certain animals as easy pets (cats, rodents and fish especially), which attracts lazy people that like the idea of having a pet but not the reality. And it doesn't help that cats are easy and cheap (sometimes even for free) to get. They want all the benefits but none of the non-fun things (like cleaning the litter box). So they dump them outside where it becomes someone else's problem (other humans and native wildlife) and when the cat dies or disappears they get the next one.

My wife's fixed cat stays outside so I don't have to deal with it, lol. We live in a rural wooded area so there are more than enough frogs, moles, etc. to go around. Better them than my feet at the end of the recliner. They're all going to be eaten by something anyway, might as well be my wife's psycho cat.

That's the thing, though--they don't eat what they kill. Studies show that cats kill on average three to four times the amount of animals they actually eat, and they will hunt and kill even when fed at home. They're responsible for the extinction of a number of birds and other small animals and they reproduce really fast, plus humans protect them so they're a huge ecological problem.

Cats are wild and meant to be outdoors, they’re not something humans created in lab..

Cats are not wild, they are domesticated animals.

Cats are not native to any ecosystem, they do not belong outside. Or on the inside, but that is another discussion.

fish and reptiles are animals too, but you wouldn't take them out of their tanks and dump them off unsupervised by the nearest river, would you? why do cats, and ONLY cats, get to be the exception to the "keep unsupervised pets inside" rule?
