No one uses ap poll rankings as a sos metric. Ap poll rankings aren’t even supposed to rank the best teams and they shouldn’t be ranking teams off of how good they are. Any sos metric worth using uses one of the most accurate predictive metrics to determine sos
As an SOS expert, perhaps you can explain how Tennessee and Washington are both 5-1 but Tennessee is ranked 11th while having a lower SOR and SOS than Washington, who is not ranked?
A 31-34 loss to Georgia vs a 24-6 loss to Ohio State. That being said I think Washington should be ranked and Tennessee should be a little lower. Should sort itself out after this weekend though with the Michigan and Alabama games
Also sor doesn’t factor in MOV. See Illinois and Notre Dame. It can still be useful though just not the end all be all
I didn’t say Washington should be ranked over Tennessee, I just want to know how it’s possible to justify the stark difference in their rankings when the “strength of” metrics actually favor Washington.
It seems like you agree that there is clearly an issue here that favors the sec team for whatever reason.
I said I think Washington should be ranked and I don’t think they should be ranked over Tennessee.
There is no issue here. Washington has played a tougher schedule than Tennessee. SOS and SOR are two data points that are useful but also don’t consider at all how a team played in those games.
