I was going to say, in a non racist way, no pure pocket passer is starting as a true freshman

Um what yes there have been plenty lmao. People just be making shit up. There are just less now with the transfer portal being the way it is, same at every other top position in the P5. If you actually look around you'll find plenty. That dude is just racist, stop making excuses to assuming a fact that is wrong.

Fromm only started because Eason got hurt week 1. He was the backup to start the year.

0

u/iamdellb Georgia Bulldogs • Nebraska Cornhuskers Aug 26 '26

He still started? And eason started as a TF the year before so the argument applies to him as well

6

u/dgood527 Penn State Nittany Lions Aug 26 '26

It says first true freshman for the Vols to start the season opener. Fromm didnt start the season opener.

2

u/iamdellb Georgia Bulldogs • Nebraska Cornhuskers Aug 26 '26

OP of this thread said no freshman pocket passers, nothing to do with the post.

1

u/dgood527 Penn State Nittany Lions Aug 27 '26

Ok, but you are still missing the point. Being the starter and starting a game due to injury are different things. OP'a comment was in relation to the actual original post that references freshman being named the starter for the season opener.

1

u/iamdellb Georgia Bulldogs • Nebraska Cornhuskers Aug 27 '26

Eason got healthy mid season. If he was the better qb he would have gone in. A start is a start, i don’t give a flying fuck what the circumstances are.

1

u/dgood527 Penn State Nittany Lions Aug 27 '26

You are welcome to have your opinion, but it has nothing to do with this thread.

2

He didn’t exactly start by choice though

2

u/iamdellb Georgia Bulldogs • Nebraska Cornhuskers Aug 26 '26

Eason was healthy mid season. If he was outplaying Fromm at practice a change would’ve been made

1

u/Over_Work_9356 Aug 27 '26

I get you’re point there’s a few factors that comes into that Kirby doesn’t make adjustments unless he has to so if Fromm had to the hot hand he was going with him. But honestly Eason was so bad in Chaney’s offense there was no reason to change

Trevor Lawrence???? Sagapolutele??? What are we talking about

22

u/enadiz_reccos LSU Tigers • Golden Boot Aug 26 '26

Trevor Lawrence had almost 1000 rushing yards at Clemson

I was unfamiliar with Sagapolutele, but I guess you can try to get away with that nowadays in the ACC. Or maybe they were desperate, who knows.

11

u/A_Rolling_Baneling :usc3: USC • Mississippi State Aug 26 '26

1000 yards in 40 games is 25 yards a game. I wouldn’t call that a dual threat. He ran it less than 6 times a game, and most weren’t designed runs

3

u/bertmaclynn Michigan Wolverines • Utah Utes Aug 26 '26

Lawrence was pretty fast though. Remember that super long TD run he had against Ohio State?

2

u/EarPlayful3108 Georgia Bulldogs Aug 26 '26

25 yards a game is decent from a QB. 6 times a game is more than a threat.

3

u/ZacInSC Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 26 '26

Yeah, but that’s the difference between a scrambler and a tru dual threat. You don’t design plays for scramblers. They’re just adept at making something out of nothing. Lawrence was really good at that, and as a Buckeye fan, I hate him for it.

2

u/EarPlayful3108 Georgia Bulldogs Aug 26 '26

They 100% called runs for him too. So do the jags. I've always viewed tlaw as a dual threat.

53

u/Clay_Allison_44 Texas Tech Red Raiders Aug 26 '26

The race factor is one aspect, also when you think past that, you're also more likely to start a true freshman that makes plays with his legs, even if it's Tim Tebow style.

4

u/hitmewiththeknowlege Florida Gators Aug 27 '26

Saying "even if it is Tim Tebow style" when he is considered one of the greatest college QBs ever is wild. Bro had 20 rushing and 20 passing tds in his heisman year.

4

u/Clay_Allison_44 Texas Tech Red Raiders Aug 27 '26

I'm just saying Tim Tebow is white in contrast to the stereotype. I don't mean "even if" as a dig. The fact that Tebow instantly came to mind as a running QB would imply he was good.

2

u/Late-Song-2933 Aug 26 '26

The way you take power from something is to make light of it and joke about it or ignore it if you can’t. Making everything and everyone constantly hyper-fixated on it does the opposite of make it go away.

With racism and all the other isms it makes everyone have insanely thin skin and they become incredibly annoying as well as more angry and anxious and depressed. Could be partially responsible for the incredible increase in depression and mental health issues over the last 20 years…

I know this because I lived in the before time when racism was actually on the decline and people were just cool with each other and capable of hearing different points of view without having an aneurysm. There was still racism because there always will be, but people were happy.

0

u/KingBStriing Auburn Tigers Aug 26 '26 edited Aug 26 '26

People that genuinely believe racism was becoming less prevalent but then suddenly ramped back up always crack me up. The only thing about racism that “went away” was the openness of it.

But that’s going back to the way it was before because white guys became the most oppressed group (in their mind), so here we are now.

-5

u/SneakyDeakyJr Auburn Tigers Aug 26 '26

-2

u/KennysWhiteSoxHat LSU Tigers Aug 26 '26

Racism is so much deeper than interpersonal experiences, so you really can’t take the power from it just by joking about it. Most of the power it holds comes from the systems in America

9

u/spike_the_dealer Texas A&M Aggies Aug 26 '26

Racism gets thrown around way too much. This is stereotyping not racism.

3

u/Jengalover Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Aug 26 '26

And is it nurture or nature??

1

u/spike_the_dealer Texas A&M Aggies Aug 26 '26

Both. People don’t like to talk about physical differences developed over a millennia of adaption or the breeding that occurred stateside. Theres also things like culture that play a part (not many ways to get out of the hood; not sure if that’s where he’s from) as people don’t realize the US has one of the worst social mobility in developed nations.
