I mean I’m a massive SEC hater and even I was thinking this take is so dumb it must be from an Ohio St flair. Instead it was my other flair’s rival lol.
(This is not the weekend it makes sense to not call a conference schedule a gauntlet with these upsets.
And actually if BYU beats Notre Dame they’ve earned some trash talking lol)

3
u/Conscious-Student813 Alabama Crimson Tide 3h ago
Yeah til u see sec is 10-2 against p4 conferences and tbh this year half the sec is good enough to be ranked but they can’t let 1 conference have that many and have to protect acc and big 10 to keep viewership and fanbases
0
u/gunpowderjunky Southern Illinois Salukis 2h ago
That sounds impressive until you realize Alabama played a team that went 5-7 last year and looks to probably match that this year.
Auburn beat a team with a similar record by 1 point.
LSU beat a team that went 7-6 last year and is headed for that again.
Mizzou played Kansas.
A&M beat a team that is currently 3-3.
Vanderbilt beat a team that is currently 3-3.
The only 2 impressive wins were Texas beating Ohio State and Mississippi State beating Minnesota and Texas only won by 1 point.
Don't get me wrong I don't think the SEC purposefully scheduled it this way. Clemson has been good as recently as two years ago. It has been longer for Florida State but they're not always not good. Mizzou and Kansas are rivals so it makes sense for them to play even though Kansas usually isn't good.
I commend the SEC for scheduling more power 4 games than other conferences but anyone that actually looks at who played who and thinks that out of conference power 4 record means much is fooling themselves.
1
u/Conscious-Student813 Alabama Crimson Tide 2h ago
sec just shows they have the depth and not top heavy compared to other conferences where they have elite teams then everyone else is mid and overrated, also with NIL you can’t use last year games because every year is a new team, like Miami just struggled against fsu who debatably got screwed out of the game and they are by far the best acc team (omit fsu game) this year and I need a big 10 sec game besides texas but the fact osu lost to a texas team struggling against sec teams says something
-1
u/MyPlace70 Alabama Crimson Tide 2h ago

Bowl season argument is pretty poor with how many players opt out
0
u/kinglallak Illinois Fighting Illini 2h ago
Ignoring the other bowl games, as players frequently skip them for draft reasons, the SEC is 1-6 vs schools from the other P4 conferences in the college football playoff.
SEC also has 2 G6 wins in the CFP and 2 SEC vs SEC matchups.
But honestly none of that matters as players move around so much with NIL.
I almost think I want the year off from switching teams to come back.

u/JCitW6855 Alabama Crimson Tide 4h ago
When anyone brings up bowl games in the last 3-5 years to compare conferences, I automatically know they’re an idiot.

A gauntlet is an armored glove.
"Running the gauntlet" was a punishment where you ran between two lines of soldiers who took whacks at you with gauntlets (or any other handy blunt/hard object).
