Bob Knight’s Playboy interviewer says he didn’t realize Knight had hit him in the stomach until he saw a fist-sized bruise back at his hotel

I interviewed Lawrence Grobel for my podcast in October. He did Knight’s Playboy interview (March 2001) a couple of months after IU fired him, much of it in Knight’s car on a day trip from Bloomington to Akron to watch his son work practice.

His book has Knight banging the steering wheel with his fist and telling him to get out and hitchhike home. When they picked up Don Donoher in Dayton, Knight told him Larry had asked “a question too far.” In 2001 Larry told the AP that Knight also grabbed him by the wrists and went for his tape recorders until Donoher stepped in. The whole interview is reprinted with his margin notes in The Art of the Interview (2004).

Full conversation, starting at the Knight story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mH_UavsH3hw&t=2127s

They somehow did it without making a field goal in the final three and a half minutes.

Hoping for some more detailed analysis of it...

Analysis / Statistics [OC] Which Men’s D1 Teams Spent the Most Time Leading — and Most Time Trailing — in 2025-26?

Arizona spent 77.64% of its season playing with a lead. Air Force spent 80.52% playing from behind.

These charts cover the entire 2025–26 season, including conference tournaments, postseason games, and overtime. Percentages use total game-clock time.

SOS is Bart Torvik’s full-season strength-of-schedule rank: 1 = toughest.

The rankings cover 364 teams with complete play-by-play. Delaware State is excluded because one game’s play-by-play was unavailable (Sorry Hornets fans!).

Santa Clara defeats Stanford 83-78

Stanford has an eye-watering 46 FTA and 19 turnovers. Julius Price shows up for the Card with 26, Anthony Batson Jr. comes off the bench with 16 in a game where there were a lot of different rotations being experimented on. Cardinal were notably without highly-touted Yale transfer Nick Townsend, who maybe would have helped with the poor rebounding on the night. Townsend was in street clothes but was highly engaged on the bench, no injury has been reported. Neck and neck throughout the whole game, a lot to work on but also a lot to love against a tourney team last year

Analysis / Statistics What is the correct box score for the 2008 Mountain West tournament semifinal between Utah and UNLV?

The background is I am switching the statistics source for my efficiency model from ESPN to USA Today and I noticed the results were different because a few games had different box scores.

Both ESPN and USA Today agree that UNLV won 61-55. But let's look at the rebounding statistics.

ESPN says UNLV had 36 boards, 15 offensive. Utah had 30, 5 offensive.

USA Today says UNLV had 34 boards, 9 offensive, and has the same for Utah with 30 and 5.

Maybe another source will resolve the matter? Nope. KenPom (subscription required) says UNLV had only 31 rebounds, 9 offensive, and Utah had only 29 rebounds, 5 offensive.

FWIW, UNLV and Utah both agree with the USA Today numbers.

Sports-Reference doesn't have box scores going back that far and I can't figure out how to access historical data from ncaa.com.

There are discrepancies with some other stats as well. What's the deal? Are ESPN and KenPom acting like old-fashioned cartographers making up geographic features to figure out whom is using their data?
