Question about censoring my Comic ‘BASTARDS’

Post image

I’ve been censoring some of the pages on GlobalComix and made them available only on Patreon alongside the ‘early release’ subscription, but since I’m new to writing a webcomic, obviously nobody cares to pay for it, which makes sense. But I’ve been thinking of maybe just re-uploading the chapters on GlobalComix uncensored? Or should I keep them as they are for now, as in, only available on Patreon in case somebody is willing to pay someday? The price I put on ‘em is like 3$ anyway, because I’m not confident enough to add anything more than that, and besides it’s only like a few pages for now. Eventually there will be more as I keep writing, but also, I’m like, who cares? What’s your advice? Should I just push through and keep it as is, or is it better as a new webcomic creator to show the public the whole project for free? I have no idea. Because honestly, before making money I obviously would rather find readers. But it also naturally progresses that way, don’t it?
(The censored pages are just the s xual scenes, which are allowed to be posted on GlobalComix without a problem anyway. It’s a supportive platform for adult creators, which is refreshing)

Personally, my priority for my comics is to get as many eyes on them as possible, so I release them in full on the web. I just want people to read them, and I don't do any marketing gimmicks to get more eyes on them or try to monetize them. Maybe I should, I dunno.

I don't have any nudity or censorable content in them (yet), but if I did I wouldn't pay wall them. I personally dislike that kind of tactic, although I think it works for some. "NSFW on Patreon!" has become a meme for r slash comics haters, and I don't think they're wrong about it. I'm kind of a contrarian though, and I hate most marketing tactics. We all have to decide what kind of artists we want to be and how we conduct ourselves as self promoters, though. There's no right or wrong, just whatever works and whatever you're comfortable with.

Me too! I’m not a fan of censorship AT ALL! Which is why I’m kinda like wanting to release the comic in its entirety. It goes against my principles to censor and charge. But like you said, the meme thing, i kinda got the impression that was what i was suppose to do. I’ll have to think of a way to fix it up then. Do i just reupload the pages on the original upload, or upload the chapters anew so the readers are alerted… Urgh i dont knoooow

I would switch out the images without making a new post/release. If readers see a new release from you and it ends up being something they've already read, it can create a negative reaction. I've gone back and made changes to my comics online, and I always just swap out the images.

You need an audience before you can monetize your audience.

Maybe pist a few of the first spicy pages unsensored and see if it brings some attention, or just sensor the um... "Important" panels, etc.

Idk. It really has a lot to do with what your censoring and how.

Maybe you can censor in a way that is more tittilating and gets readers wanting to see more, dather than big black bars. Do you have example pages?
