MCM Comic Con - London Just a few questions...

Post image

1) Can you actually meet the guests on the list? There's so many voice actors that made my childhood I really wanna meet, e.g Charles martinet, Nolan north, etc. I just wanna know how many people on the list realistically would I be able to meet over the three days?

2) I'm guessing cosplayings essential? What characters do people normally dress as, is it just anime or can it be videogames/superheroes as well?

3) Do I need friends to go? None of my friends or family are into this, I just don't know if it's worth going to by myself. I'll pluck up the courage to go but I might need to go by myself to a few things to get used to going places on my own rather than relying on friends.

Thanks!

  1. Cosplaying isn't mandatory.
  2. I've been on my own and it's fine :)

  1. Well... yeah, meeting them is the whole point of them being there! Depending on how busy they are, they might be on quite a tight schedule though. If there's any of the smaller creators you're fond of, it's always really nice to have a few minutes to talk to them.

  2. Cosplaying is definitely not essential. MCM is one of the more cosplay-heavy conventions but even then it's probably only about 50% of people there who do it. You can cosplay as pretty much anything- anime, video games, sci-fi and superheroes are the most popular, but there's also lots of cosplays from unexpected media like internet memes or book series that I've seen be very popular.

  3. It is more fun with friends, but I don't really have a friend group to go with regularly and I still enjoy it on my own. It's a tradeoff really, it might be a bit boring not always having people to talk to, but it also has the benefit that you can look at what's going on and do exactly what you feel like at any time rather than needing to agree with people.

1) Yes, depends on how much money you have, they all cost.

2) No, 85% of people will just be comfortable in jeans and t-shirts.

3) No, time to learn to stand on your own two feet.

Don’t miss out on things by avoiding Solo - conventions, theatre, movies, gigs. It can all be fun on your own. It’s very freeing not having to worry about what other people want to do. It’s a different experience. Not better or worse, just different.

If you want the social aspect you can always see if people are doing any meet-ups?

1) over the 3 days you should be able to meet whoever you'd like. Just check what days the people you want to meet are there as they may not do all 3 days

source: i've been going for 13 years

  1. i mean if you can afford everyone then yes, depending on how busy they are and when they take breaks. the point of special guests is giving people the potential of meeting them (and generating revenue)
  2. nope. rock up in your pjs who cares. people cosplay bcs it's a hobby, it's fun, they do it with friends or solo or groups. i do it as a hobby. usually it's common characters. you will see at LEAST 1 deadpool. some more obscure media sure but niche audiences will only get it. don't wanna cosplay? ok then don't. it includes everything media. films, games, shows, comics. you'll see hazbin, you'll see marvel, you'll see disney, you'l; see this and that. once i saw someone cosplaying the fuckin excel centre itself.
  3. i went alone in may. if you wanna go, and you're safe to do so, then go have fun. it's not mandatory for people to go with others. if it's an interest then sure go. getting a hotel for it is the best bcs travel will add up and be expensive. always book hotels WAY in advance. i usually book hotels a year, or close to a year, in advance bcs they raise the prices closer to the time. idk you OP but once you learn the train route or whatever mode of transport, then go for it. it's an expensive hobby but i like doing it. tickets alone costed me £67 for sat and sun general. (i remember when both tickets costed around £30 sigh increased prices my loathed) not including the around £200 for a hotel and more for train travel. (hotel is more bcs it's for 2 people). if you plan on going then get tickets in advance as well. the person thats going with me in a few weeks had to pay £77 bcs he had to get a priority bcs general sold out.
  4. open to answer more questions!

for the mcm comic con, that happens every may and october. i used to go both may and october when i was younger but as the prices continue to rise i've just kept to every october. still very fun tho! so thats the friday-sunday event both months every year. i know there's other events like some motorcycle event that happens at the excel but i just go there for mcm so any other events thats held there i wouldn't have the info for ^^ if you can afford it, the yacht hotel is lovely. right on the green out front by the excel centre itself so it's nice and close. another great one is the prince regent hotel (usually my go to if i cant get the yacht) and that is just down the road to the excel centre (one straight road, takes like 5-10 mins to walk) ;3
