My go-to convention lunch is every day I wrap a pre-cooked sausage (Aidell’s is the brand at my store) in a tortilla, maybe with a little cheese or lettuce or something if I feel fancy, and put it in a small ziplock. It’s compact enough that it won’t get squished in my bag, easy to carry, filling, quiet to eat in a panel, and if I decide that I want to pay for a lunch (interesting option had no line, ran into a friend who wanted to go to a restaurant, etc), it didn’t take so much money/effort that I feel bad tossing it (or I could always just have it as a snack later).

Don't poop on the show floor. That'll turn into major news

The first thing I do when I arrive at a convenient is autographs/selfies first with celebrities and then comic artists. I also plan out the day including what panels/workshops I want to go to days if not weeks before the convention

Hydration backpack. No more forgetting to drink water because you ran out. I prefer cold water so I fill it with ice at the hotel first and it lasts for a long while

Specifically for SDCC: visit the Art Show for unique pieces of art and a break from the masses. You can bid on or straight up buy most of the art. They have a bag check, free water outside the Art Show doors, and the Blood Drive is typically just down the hall (should you want to donate to help people out and get a free shirt for doing so).

For SDCC, bring an umbrella – but for the sun! Particularly if waiting in a Hall H line...

A collapsable chair has saved me many-a-times when going to a con. It's super lightweight and I can literally pop it out in a quiet corner and recharge without sitting on the floor and ruining my costume.
