Walking Pneumonia SUCKS. It's not as bad as traditional Pneumonia but it is not fun. Pretty hardcore name though.

Sorry you had to drag someone with you to get proper medical care.

I've had both walking and regular pneumonia now and walking for sure wasn't as bad as the regular, but still would NOT recommend. The sad part is I had already been to the doctors on my own and they told me it was nothing major and sent me home T_T

I went to the hospital once with a terrible stomach ache, the "nurse practitioner" there basically bet her license that it was just gatritis (which is the wrong term btw). Went to the doctor in the morning, also thought it was just gastrointeritis or constipation. Well, lo and behold, I went to a different hospital and it was appendicitis and it had almost ruptured

I was 19. Male doctors told me I was constipated, nope! Ovarian cyst had burst, and a rather large one as another hospital who did an actual ultrasound two days later could attest to by the amount of fluid still there.

28, same stupid diagnosis from a male doctor who didn’t even have me lay down on the table, palpitated my stomach while I was standing and holding my infant daughter. This time, I got recommendations for an OB office nearby, they imaged a 6.5cm cyst on my ovary. Thankfully this one didn’t burst, but solidified my disgust.

I know the pain, I'm sorry you had to go through that. I guess if they only found out a couple days later, then they didn't operate to remove the old blood that leaked from the cyst and the cyst itself?

Will they be doing anything about the 6.5cm cyst if you don't mind me asking?

No operation for the cyst that burst, the fluid eventually absorbed. The second cyst went away on its own, but we learned that low estrogen or progesterone only birth control is a huge problem for me. My issues with hormonal birth control eventually led me to get a hysterectomy in 2021. Best procedure ever, every woman who wants one should get one!

Had to take my wife to the ER three times before they figured out she had to have her gallbladder removed. Yes, her eyes are yellow, no I don’t care that you the doctor can’t tell, I’ve been married to her 8 years I have some idea what her eyes are supposed to look like.

In these cases, everyone that made an incorrect diagnosis should receive some sort of notification about what happened.

We probably could have sued them if we had proof, but the other hospital was the same chain as the original and we went there bc a relative works there (she was the one who made us go to the hospital again in the first place btw, otherside my appendix would probably have ruptured). We didn't want to mess anything up for her, so we just told the hospital about it and they dealt with it internally

I had walking pneumonia last year, not fun.

u/Chippylives920 Jun 19 '26

Definitely don't get pertussis if you think pneumonia is bad! I had a bad reaction to the vaccine when I was younger and the pertussis vaccine apparently didn't take and got it in junior hight. What a horrible experience. Coughing up goop all day and night just to finally be able to eat something and throw it all up from coughing. Horrible

What would you recommend I confectionery myself with then?

But that does suck they said it's nothing, I hope that doesn't happen in future.

Man. I had this. I went to the ER once and was sent home with them telling me that I had some chest inflammation.

I spent a month in pain, almost wrecking my kidneys because they told me to take naproxin which was turning my piss orange, and it took me seeing my GP who asked me to take a blood lab. I get a panicked call from her asking me to go the emergency room because my inflammation levels are "stupidly high".

Go back, and turns out I had pneumonia. Worst fucking month of my life. I couldn't sleep and had to like pin myself between a desk and a couch so I could sleep while sleeping.

Does it make you walk or does it walk around in your lungs?

1

u/FTC_Publik Jun 19 '26

I'm a guy and have had the same happen. Felt the yearly ick starting, went in to get ahead of it, "come back on Friday if you're still sick", and golly gee what do you know the thing I told them that would happen happened and now I have pneumonia. Of course then they write the prescription.

I’ve had it a few times. I had costochondritis from it and had to hug a pillow anytime I coughed. Every time it was misdiagnosed so that’s more time being sick. When I finally saw a nurse that cared she said they call it walking pneumonia because you’re just not needing hospitalization.

Pretty hardcore name though

Wait until you see Running Pneumonia, Sprinting Pneumonia, and the worst of them: Skedaddling Pneumonia.

Yeah I'm gonna practice so I can compete in the 100m Pneumonia Dash.

3

u/SmoothTurtle872 Jun 19 '26

What about the Pneumonia Downhill Skiing?

2

u/UpCDownCLeftCRightC Never Safe From Wumbo Jun 19 '26

I'm not a fan of that one. I'd rather watch the Pneumonia Relay where the baton is the infection you gotta pass along.

8

u/Mekisteus Jun 19 '26

Moseying Pneumonia isn't so bad, relatively-speaking.

6

u/So_Motarded Jun 19 '26

Yeah it's just one step above Ambling Pneumonia.

3

u/FlaccidCatsnark Jun 19 '26

The British version of that strain, Perambulating Pneumonia, is a walk in the park by comparison.

u/HeyVernItsThanos4242 Jun 19 '26

Waltzing Pneumonia, waltzing Pneumonia You'll come a-waltzing Pneumonia with me

3

u/Remarkable-Rush-9085 Jun 19 '26

I had a retired neighbor who didn’t like when the neighborhood kids stood in “his” cul-de-sac and he would come out on the porch and yell “You kids better skeeee-daddle!!” And you just brought me straight back to 1992 with that word, lol.

So, thanks. And RIP Mr. Hugh, you absolute asshole.

3

u/Belkan-Federation95 Jun 19 '26

In all seriousness, the worst version is caused when Y. pestis enters the lungs

1

u/JustANoobCovaleki Jun 19 '26

You guys are not ready for when the flash Pneumonia comes in.

1

u/Jeff_Damn Jun 19 '26

I just recovered from rockin' pneumonia and the boogie-woogie flu.

1

u/_30d_ Jun 19 '26

Loitering Pneumonia beats them all.

1

u/Wilbo1242 Jun 19 '26

Let's just hope it never learns to ride a bike, or god forbid...drive

1

u/heyitsYMAA Jun 19 '26

And here I thought Chicken Dancing Pneumonia was the worst of the lot. I had no idea about Skedaddling!

1

u/Frostyrepairbug Jun 19 '26

I've heard Scuttling Pneumonia can be rough.

1

u/dozy_bitch Jun 19 '26

"Pneumonia characterized by a series of slide-whistle tones from the Hanna-Barbara SFX library"

1

u/abadstrategy Jun 19 '26

Nah, worst of em is Skamonia. It's like walking pneumonia, but much noisier

13

u/ObligatoryContrast Jun 19 '26

I've had walking pneumonia twice and traditional pneumonia three times. Both are absolutely abysmal. Traditional is definitely worse though

3

u/honestyseasy Jun 19 '26

A rocking pneumonia however is a barrel of laughs.

2

u/Samara88 Jun 19 '26

I went to urgent care with this AWFUL pain all up my right arm. Turns out it was walking pneumonia, not what I was expecting at all.

2

u/d33psix Jun 19 '26

Yeah unfortunately walking pneumonia is almost defined by giving long lasting bad cold symptoms so it’s harder to diagnose and distinguish from viral common cold beyond lasting too long and not getting better.

It’s unfortunately basically diagnosed by coming back because it doesn’t go away along the normal course of a cold and most early chest X-rays during that time end up looking normal and are kinda useless. And since antibiotic resistance is getting so bad out there they try not to treat cold symptoms with them because most are caused by viruses and would not be helpful.

So you end up stuck with a situation forcing you to deal with long ass cold type misery to prove it doesn’t look viral and eventually get treated.

I had it in middle school and I was out for almost a full month. Shit fucking sucked lol
