I (white woman) was travelling via Dubai airport and was 'randomly' selected 5 TIMES
At every checkpoint, as well as random stops when I was coming down an escalator. My family ditched me because they were annoyed I was taking so long, I got taken to special rooms each time for searches since I'm Female
This is the only real reply, everyone else needs to touch grass. If a woman is perceived as travelling alone and meets a certain profile they will "randomly" search for this reason.
I would be concerned with them ending up a victim of kidnapping and sex trafficking, personally.
A lot of the times these airport or border staff are hired by crime organizations. Take you into secondary locations, then take you out of the "official surveillance" of legitimate port. Then you get grilled, fleeced and roasted by grunts for bribes, or work. Its awfully terrifying and I've heard very bad experiences with Dubai in particular.
Yes, but I have greater concerns in countries with higher levels of rape and trafficking, particularly of foreign nationals. Maybe I’m biased through what the media chooses to report (trafficking in the US is insane), but I would not leave a woman I’m traveling with alone in a foreign country. I don’t think I would in the US either. Especially with ICE detainments.
My cousin, who is white, always gets stopped in the US for "random" screenings. That side of my family has some Italian in them so he and all the rest of that side have a darker, olive complexion. Couple that with him having thicker black hair and a full beard and you can guess what TSA thinks when they see him
Yeah that happened to me every time I traveled alone , the only time it didn’t was when I was with my sister . Not white though, always just assumed it’s cause I tend to look ‘alternative’ . I’ve never been separately taken to any special rooms though, they just check my bags with the rest of the people randomly selected. Did you travel to Dubai or was it the middle stop , for me it was on the way from Australia to London. So they were only like one randomized check on my way to my second flight
Most Western countries or gender egalitarian countries take both men and women to a special room for deeper searches regardless of gender. I think it may be different in some Middle Eastern or Asian countries, and it's kinda sad because it implies benevolent sexism too, where women's bodies are tied to "modesty" more than men's
5 times in one trip for no reason?! That's insane.
since I'm Female
I believe everyone regardless of gender gets taken to a special room for a deeper inspection though, no? Maybe it's different in Middle Eastern countries or some Asian countries because they are more narrow minded about women's bodies specifically
