There's beiges and golden browns galore

Maillard reaction goes brrr.

French cuisine has an identical colour palette and yet it's considered high cuisine.
Genuinely the nonsense about British food comes from two things - American G.I. experiences during wartime Britain, and the fact that the Brits are much more tolerant of mediocre food than the French or Italians are.

Much of Scandinavia and the Netherlands is arguably worse in terms of cuisine, yet they get nowhere near the level of flak as Britain does.

Honestly, yeah. You can get great food almost where ever you go of course but considering the prices, at least if you compare London to Stockholm, you'll get better food for cheaper in London. You don't get to be such a huge logistics hub without having good ingredients for good prices.

Doubly so for the alcohol.

I dunno, I had a pint of cider in 2022 not far from Paddington Station, on my way to Cardiff. I almost cried when I paid the bill.

London has Scandinavian alcohol prices, the rest of the UK is more reasonable.

I dunno man I live in London and even in my wildest Zone 1 dealings I was never as shocked at the price of beer until I got a half pint in Oslo in 2023
