I did assume that was the reason but I'd prefer just to turn on the bathroom light

My studio apartment also has this, so it's not just a hotel thing. I do appreciate how I don't have to fumble in the dark if there's a power outage. My glass is frosted, by the way

By my room also has fuckass wide windows, and apparently the reason is because enough people with enough money will pay more for the view. I suspect the same thing is going on here. It's something that enough rich people would pay to have that it's profitable for the developer to do it even if most people don't like it. The rich hold such sway over the market their unpopular tastes become the norm.
