It's reducing the quantity of customers they can accommodate.

If you're a hotel with 50 rooms and 2 beds per room, and you start enforcing 1 guest per room, then you go from being a hotel with 50 rooms that can hold 100 guests into a hotel with 50 rooms that can hold 50 guests.

Complete amateur, actually. Maybe that's not the technical definition, but that's the effect I can see.

But hotels dont care about the number of guests, they care about the number of rooms sold. I f the hotel normally sells 25 of their 50 rooms, and this change gets them to sell 50. Then its a good change for them.

But the guests would have to pay x2 the price. Supply goes down, price goes up.

Of course it's a good deal for the hotel, if they can get away with it. I didn't mean to suggest otherwise.

That's the point. People don't go to hotels when they have other choices.

Yes I'm not disagreeing with any of that.

Hotel wants to sell 1 guest per room rather than 2 guests per room = hotel is willing to halve quantity of customers = hotel is raising prices on customers.

And if there's no competitive pressure then they can get away with it.
