Thanks! They get hundreds/thousands of submissions a week, so it's not too surprising. Sold my first one a few months ago and fingers crossed a second sale comes soon!
Thanks! It’s not always perfectly up to date, but I generally use this as my guide for what the various markets pay: https://colemantoons.com/marketlist.php
It's been decades but I don't remember cartoons in the WSJ, just those engraved style line drawings. Maybe it's that. But still. You'd be surprised how the sausage is made in every industry. A gmail address is kinda sophisticated for the shit I've seen. So much of the world is dependant on a laptop that's been on since Obama was president and everyone forgot about it under a bunch of files somewhere in a back room.
Shit, I had to talk my team out of moving a server to an raspberry pi and stick it somewhere. I had to explain all the ways that's stupid in detail before they have up on the idea. And the bill really isn't that much anyway so I'm not sure what they were trying to solve.
And the number of times entire departments were held together with literal duct tape. I've worked for some big places and seen some shit man
Why would they pay more than that when paying $170 gets them thousands of submissions a week, with good enough quality that they are rejecting ones as good as the ones in this post? I don’t think the quality would go up much if they paid more.
Am I really led to believe here that the WSJ pays only $170 for a cartoon and they need to be sent to a gmail address?
this is a 3rd party site collecting various submission methods and many are dead links. i trust /u/Casual_Deviant but i'd take this with a grain of salt, there is probably a better way to do it.
That's an HTML website that he built himself in a week. It works exactly as it needs to, and requires zero upkeep other than content. He pays $0 for web development to accomplish 100% of the goals.
The “Progressive Dairyman” has to be a joke, right? They seem to have forgotten that women exist and they only pay $10 for a cartoon? Not exactly what I’d call progressive…
Do they ever give you any useful feedback as to why they were rejected?
It makes me wonder, whether it might be prudent to try and re-submit the same cartoon later in time? Some of those are really, really good and I can't imagine the New Yorker not using them.
People do often submit the same toon a few times! I’ve done it from time to time with some that I think are especially good, but usually I just shop them around to other markets and end up posting them on social media.
