OC A Comic about DID - Part 9 [OC]

If you want to help playtest this mod, join our Discord! It features the creation of different "profiles" on one account which each have their individual skin, location, inventory, and their own keep inventory toggle.

You can download this without joining the Discord here, but keep in mind it's still in early beta so there will probably be bugs. The keybind for the alter menu is 'K' by default.

I'm sorry if these questions are stupid or disrespectful but I've never actually talked to someone with DID before so I'm curious

  1. Does one of you front more or less often than others
  2. Are you the original personality or an alter? (I'm sorry if that's rude to ask or if I worded it rudely)
  3. Do you guys consult each other about large purchases or just buy the thing
  4. Do you all get along?

Not the artist but:

1: Varies from system to system. Mine is pretty even.

2: There is no "original". Take a plate and shatter it. Which fragment is the original plate?

3: Depends, we usually consult.

4: Mostly. We have arguments.

The second part was the most difficult for me to grasp. We always worked under the assumption that I was the original, and that he was an intrusion, a parasite, a foreign body injected due to the trauma. Took a lot of therapy to finally get myself AND him to realize we're both the same guy. Which, to an outsider is a "no duh" moment, but it's very different when you're living it and one identity is fronting 95% of the time.

We havent been diagnosed with anything and are still in the questioning/syscovery process, but there is a term for an "original" alter, being the core. This could be a feeling or metaphor that isnt true in reality, but we do consider our host our "core". Most of us "officially formed" after she stopped being in denial, and since she is the one who uses our old online name and identify the most with all of our accounts and posts? We just assume she was the first one here.

We don't know if she really IS the core or original, but but think that they are helps us deal with this hige realization about our identity and life as a whole.

Core could also be synonymous with like a "Load Bearing Alter".

So think Adam and how Eve is his rib. He's the original but he's missing a rib and Eve is the person who grew from that broken rib!

Once Eve is fully developed, they're both equally alters in the garden! Neither is worth more than the other. One was just there first.

Haley, Lazurys, Shiori, Vykrr, and Sierra are my Cores. They're the alters that ALL my alters spawn from.

The Common Ancester if you will.

Or the grandparents of the system.

Ooh ok thank you for answering, sorry if the second question is rude at all; That answer makes sense I was just imagining how it works wrong (I always thought it was one personality then others were added onto the first one)

It's from a missed development milestone. Children are scrambled all over the place. At a certain age, their brain gathers all their memories and builds one coherent timeline and sense of self out of it. Because we had profound childhood yikes and certain coping mechanisms, our brains built partitions to hide the memories from ourself, so the memories aren't available to make a coherent whole, and we end up with a fragmented jumble of partitions.

This might be too personal, so feel free to not answer, but how did you find out you had this condition? Was it a surprise to you, did you know all along, or maybe some combination of both?

We knew about the symptoms, but never had a name for it. I generally only existed when somebody was very emotional or distressed by scary people around, and then I would show up and instantly, well, I wasn't crying, so the body would just shut down mid sob, and I'd smile and talk to people in a calm fashion, be friendly to the people who other people had nightmarish memories of, and so on.

Eventually I did that to quiz one of our counselors (we've gone through too many) because the host(age) at the time was too much of a gibbering mess to continue therapy that day, and she realized that that looked like a DID switch.

For us, we noticed that our internal sense of gender kept changing, and it continued doing this for years of us actively keeping track of it. Trends and clear patterns started emerging and we brought it to a therapist and asked “is this DID?” … and it turned out someone else in our body had already had already discussed it with him a previous week.

This is so funny to me. There really is an untapped comedic potential with DID.

That reminds me of the time we stopped watching Moon Knight because we wanted to watch all of it with our ex, spouse at the time, only to end up arguing with them that no, we hadn't finished watching it, we were waiting to watch it with them.

Then the culprit woke up and informed us that she had watched the whole thing.

Some of this has been addressed in previous comics, so I'll restate on behalf of OP.

  1. They do have different frequency when it comes to fronting. The alter represented by the Bat Wings here is one that fronts more often, referred to as a new host(age) in a previous comic.

  2. The artist of this particular entry is different from the usual artist, but the previous artist stated that there isn't really an "original." Everyone's an alter. Even the current host is definitely not the original, as they (Bat Wings) only showed up later.

Can't comment on 3 and 4.

Not OP but I have this too.

  1. Host usually fronts the most in any system unless they lack a host.

  2. The original typically "dies" with the first split cause you're essentially cutting a person in half and watching them form into 2 new people. BUT in mine we DO have an original host. :D Her name is Haley. She "died" temporarily but is back now. She doesn't host anymore (that's my job) and just acts as a trauma holder.

  3. We just buy the thing depending on what it is but we do try to communicate.

  4. We hate each other >:( sometimes........ (We're a family so we fight.)
