Source? Most romance novels I’ve read don’t specify a height for their male lead they’ll just say “tall” or a synonym.
That’s kinda, like, the thing with romance novels. You’re given a description but not so much that it can contradict your fantasies, so you’re encouraged to imagine yourself + your ideal partner. It’s way most protags are brunettes; brown hair is more common, so more of your audience can imagine themselves as the lead.
Idk some romance novels have very specific descriptions, not all of them are some kind of self inserts fantasy. In my experience they sometimes do indicate height, not most often they don't, and most of the time that height is 6 feet. So I wonder where that data is from as well.
Also there exists under 5'9 male love interests, I have read some with short kings. Again they don't really put a number but they say stuff like "medium height" or "as tall as [female main character]" and she is not particularly tall.
I didn't know how unrealistic that distribution is, since it's just a catch all "fantastical height" category. Isn't there a whole lot of monster fucker smut?
Lol have you read any recent romance novel at all? Personality / body, everything is ludicrous and solely for female enjoyment. Is it bad? No, that's the point of those books, but pretending the vast, overwhelming majority of love interests in female books are not super tall/muscular/rich or powerful, is ridiculous
This isn't my first language, so maybe I'm just not getting the right meaning, but I don't think the body proportions are altered through height, right? So the post is about absurd body proportions, but this example is just about height. Am I missing something?
I don't doubt that fictional men have unrealistic proportions too (can't think of any examples but a generally very muscular build often doesn't make sense in the context of a character). My point is just that height alone isn't a matter of proportions. Height alone requires some sort of refferencial system to even identify, whilst proportions alone don't.
Your example character is interesting though. I don't know anything about halo, but I would assume that the character is mainly ment for a male audience to identify with, rather than to gain a female audience? Not saying that female romance novels don't have absurd height standards though, they absolutely do lol.
For someone whos first language isnt english, you sure talk a lot.
Listen man. I know your point, you made your point above. Height alone isnt the problem. Its when you get to a certain height, especially as human, the body proportions get....unattractive. i.e. Wemby. So, any character over 6'8" is almost always a dishonest representation of that height and weight and proportion because game.
We dont need to discuss further, I dont like you nor do i wish to continue conversing with you.
I like how you commented that men never have said they wouldn’t date a woman if she doesn’t have D cups, realized you were wrong, deleted your comment and posted this LMAO
I’m not sure why it has to be in person specifically. I’ve never seen a woman reject someone for being too short in person. I’ve seen tons of men online belittle women for how big or small their breasts are, how much they weigh, etc. I’ve never experienced women belittling men for their height.
If by Novels we mean books (which I believe we do), we are not even LOOKING at these characters, and even if we include visual novels, the sprites dont even allow us to see a character in their full height more often than not anyways, and you can say a character is however tall because they are pixels on a screen
thragg and moon knight are the worst examples you could’ve chosen. It’s still unhealthy standards for guys, but bro aura farms, he doesn’t get sexualized, and last o checked, there isn’t exactly a scene where he’s bending or moving in a way that would be super uncomfortable for him solely because the artists wanted to emphasize his muscles to make the readers thirst after him.. Guys find thragg and moon knight cool and aspire to be them, to be built like them. Those characters are created and designed by men, in a medium dominated by male readers/audience
Pick the dc & marvel swimsuit covers at least lol, that would be an infinitely better example that actually fits
