This happened at Wesleyan so I figured it belongs here. I can’t believe how little the song changed once they got a record deal.

“ Legal weed for corporations, police raids for everyone else? New CT investigation raises serious questions.”

Read the Connecticut CannaTimes investigation

Connecticut legalized cannabis in 2021 with promises of repairing the damage caused by decades of the War on Drugs.
Now look at these numbers.
A Connecticut CannaTimes investigation found that:
96.7% of documented cannabis search-warrant raids happened inside or within five miles of communities Connecticut officially recognizes as disproportionately harmed by the War on Drugs.
91.6% of documented cannabis enforcement locations fell within those same areas.
92.7% of documented enforcement actions involving arrests occurred in or near those communities.
For context, Connecticut created these designated areas because residents had already suffered disproportionately from cannabis prohibition and criminal enforcement.
The state acknowledged the damage, promised to repair it, and built an entire legal cannabis industry around that promise.
Meanwhile, corporations can legally grow and sell cannabis, investors can profit, and the state collects tax revenue.
But people are still being arrested and raided for participating in the same market outside the state’s licensing system.
Think about how absurd that is.
The government spent decades criminalizing cannabis. Then it legalized cannabis, handed out a limited number of licenses, and continued enforcing prohibition against people operating outside that system.
Now an investigation shows just how heavily documented enforcement is concentrated in and around the very communities legalization was supposed to help.
To be clear, being within five miles of one of these areas doesn’t necessarily mean a raid happened inside that community. And these numbers alone don’t prove discriminatory policing.
But they raise some serious questions about what cannabis legalization in Connecticut has actually accomplished.
Did Connecticut really end the War on Drugs, or did we just create a legal industry for those who could afford to participate while continuing to criminalize everyone else?
Because legalization without meaningful opportunity for ordinary people starts looking a whole lot more like corporate protection than criminal justice reform.

Nature and Wildlife Highly underrated fall color plants.

Blueberries(Vaccinium corymbosum, heather family Ericaceae) are in my opinion the best red color to grace the whole of New England. Those vile burning bushes(Euonymus alatus, bittersweet family Celastraceae) has nothing on their level.

For varied color, the ubiquitous and often reviled native poison ivy(Toxicodendron radicans, cashew family Anacardiaceae) has a display rivaled by no other.

Ask Connecticut Tires shops near UConn area that offer tire storage?

Just recently moved to Mansfield, CT. Going to need to swap to my snows in the coming months. Wanted to know if there was a shop that would store my off-season sets, as I have no room in my new apartment to store tires long-term. Tried calling a few local places but had no luck. Anyone know of any shops or even dealerships in Willimantic, Manchester, Vernon, Mansfield or any of the nearby towns that offer this? Or am I gonna have to just opt for a 5x5 storage unit? Don't have any friends/relatives that have the space I need either. Thanks!

As title says, located in the 06340 area and unsuccessfully searching for a Turban Squash to put into a still life... Just wondering if anyone has seen these around recently at farmstands or grocery stores

I've tried all of the farms within a 10 mile radius so far and had no luck. Appreciate any leads or confirmed squash sightings

Politics Mobility Solutions For All: From Trains to Microtransit to Safer Streets

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Posting on behalf of James Mol candidate for state representative for East Granby, Suffield and Windsor Locks.

As of October 18, the new Windsor Locks station has Hartford Line and Amtrak trains, plus a bus to Bradley every 20 minutes on weekdays. That’s a real step forward.

But in Suffield and East Granby there is no train and no regular bus. If you don’t drive, you depend on someone else.

Connecticut already has an answer in microtransit, and I want to do the work to bring it to our towns. My full plan for mobility and safer roads is at jamesmol.com/policy/roads-mobility. I hope you’ll have a look.
