I’m honestly mad

I’m honestly upset that the writers went with Bethany getting pregnant literally after Lucy said in an interview that she didn’t want her character to have kids. They then continued to follow through with that with Bethany telling Sarah that she didn’t see herself as a mom.

Now, she ends up getting pregnant by Kit after a one night stand. That one night stand was honestly enough. But no, she had to get pregnant🙄

I can see Bethany being stupid with men like Sarah (she was with Daniel and Nathan), but I never saw her getting pregnant by her mom’s ex. That’s low, even for the Platts. I actually do hope she ends up getting a termination. It would end this stupid bs and it would get Kit out of the Platts’ lives.

I have a feeling Lucy has already hinted that something will happen as she says that “this will not end well for Bethany”. And that was even after she explained how Bethany confides with Ryan about her situation.

Poppies on Coronation Street

• Upvotes

Ross was wearing a poppy today almost inappropriately early which tracks as he obviously has Help For Heroes vibes. It made me think, wouldn’t it be cool if this year they actually thought about who would actually buy and wear a poppy, who wouldn’t, what would TOYAH do (obviously knitted or white poppy). Let me know your thoughts!

Babies can't fix problems

I've posted before about how much the baby thing pisses me off but I think the thing that truly bothers me the most is this implicit idea that a baby is needed to help build familial bonds. Kit already has a family complete with a son he's only just building a relationship with. A son who has very emphatically said that he needs Kit to live. He has a bio mother that he's slowly warmed up to who passed on the BRCA gene to him (obviously not Bernie's fault at all) and a sister who may well also have it. There is plenty of groundwork there to build upon this family. Even if the cancer or the ensuing treatment impacts Kit's fertility, would it be so hard to fathom that he may actually be relieved at this point because it means he can't pass the gene on? Especially with how guilty he's already feeling about even potentially passing that gene to Brody. And again, the potential for Kit to be a dad is already there.

Also, forgive me for being snarky because I actually do like Kit, but I think Kit has actually been a bit too fertile if anything so far.

And Bethany is a character that has always seemed to be perfectly happy without kids and even if she did it would actually have been more interesting to have a female character who struggles with fertility as a result of botched surgery, medical trauma and sexual trauma rather than yet another oopsie pregnancy.

Kit seems surprisingly well?

• Upvotes

I have never experienced chemo (thank goodness) so I don’t know what it is like but I am a little surprised at how well Kit seems. He had the initial exhaustion and nausea after the infusion but now seems fine..he is even back at work. Thoughts..is this a realistic portrayal?

It's tries to Law and Order but it feels like these scenes are written by a amateur writer with heavy time restraints put on them.

It’s been 7 years. It is time to axe the remaining Baileys and bring a new family into No. 3.

Every house on the street is supposed to have a family with history, a rotating cycle of major storylines, and a real impact on the community. But since the Baileys arrived back in June 2019, they have done absolutely nothing. No impact, no memorable presence, nothing.

Aside from Dee-Dee (who carried the family before she left) and Ronnie (who is a great character, but doesn't even live in the house!), there is just nothing to them. No. 3 is a completely wasted house that could be filled with a brand-new family capable of creating fresh storylines for years to come.
Ed Bailey, Has done absolutely nothing of substance.
James Bailey, Has done nothing, and even after being recast, he’s just taking up space.
Michael Bailey Had that storyline with Grace, which was okay at best, but it led nowhere and he’s been completely useless since.

7 years on the cobbles, and what can you honestly say about the Baileys other than total disappointment?

It is time for ITV to axe Ed, James, and Michael, sell No. 3, and bring in a dynamic new family that actually wants to be a part of the show.

Did anyone notice both barristers, and the foreman of the jury for Sarah’s trial were the exact same as on Nathan Curtis’ trial?

Spoiler: the verdict Spoiler

Anyone else disappointed by the verdict? Murder probably not but I don’t think Sarah deserves to get off scott free, end of the day Theo never actually touched her, we all know he probably would have, but it’s hard to defend a self defence claim when you haven’t been touched, especially when she tried to hide it, let someone else get charged etc. very least should be involuntary manslaughter and perverting the course of justice. Real world she’s never getting off with nothing

Is it just me or does the John Stape/Colin Fishwick Storyline remind me of Breaking Bad (also one of the best corrie villains)

Post image
19 Upvotes

Obviously I don't mean in an international drug trafficker but I think there is extreme parallels of the psychological, family dynamic and desperation between the two characters and considering the timing of the storyline it does feel at bare minimum the writers of the storyline really took the show to heart. And is just comically similar with the way of a mild mannered forgettable educated working/middle class teacher insecure about life and slowly descending into a life of crime.

(and yes I am deeping coronation street of all shows this much)

John Stape I feel shares many traits with Walter to an almost uncanny level at times with their shared Illusion of Morality with John always trying to justify as doing things all of it for Fiz and the baby and that each crime is just an unfortunate accident he has been forced into. He views himself as an intellectual mentor and that it is a position he is almost entitled to and any role beneath it is just unsatisfying. His ego demands he be back in a classroom, being looked up to and he is insecure about his place in society and there is almost a primal desperation

Also the ways he communicates with Fiz feels very similar to how the communications between Skylar and Walt is. Keeping her in the dark and when he does let her in it is always in the tense of trying to minimise her opinion and to justify his actions to all means and that it is for his family like often in the storyline John asks Fiz for an opinion on a situation just to never take on her view on the matter other than when it affirms whatever scheme he has conjured up.

I feel bad for Fiz in a similar way in that she is always in the storyline to protect her family and Chesney and threatening to leave and any soft power she had to try and make him see sense on the matter but as it all unravels she gets attached to his crimes (helping move Colins body, stealing and managing the money from Joy Fishwick) and is manipulated by John time and time again.

Also many parallels with Chesney and Walt Jr especially when it comes to the later half of the storyline of using all of his limited power that he is to be between John and Fiz and is in many ways through his investigating and natural suspicion of John, ends up being a huge amount of the reason why the life and lie he built up started crumbling.

I could speak way more about this and bring up more information if anyone is interested. But I was mainly wondering if anyone else while watching this storyline saw the similarities between the two? and also I wanted to post so John could get a bit more recognition for truly how well written of a villain he was.

Stephen Reid

American viewer here, currently reviewing the Stephen Reid story. I know the actor is American-born and had a childhood spent around the world, but his North American accent sounds something awful; just really forced and fake. The character's acting is awful as well. I suspect he was meant to be somewhat over-the-top, but he just makes me cringe. I believe he also played Doug's father on Hollyoaks, and I had the same reaction; he sounds like a foreigner feigning an American accent. Just had to vent; they could have done something more fun trying to integrate a Canadian/American-raised character onto the show.
