Mod change:
As some may know long time mod u/Kyengen is stepping down on the 18th. I’ve been a mod here for a bit now and will be taking the reins.
I like to think Kyengen kept things pretty well regulated and fair, and in taking over I will try to run the sub just the same. So no worries, no major changes to be expected immediately.
State of the sub:
Now I know there are a few grievances concerning spam and “NSFW” material. As of now they are being reviewed as they’re reported and approved/removed on a case by case basis.
Other than that I don’t think there’s many disruptors in the sub. I’d like to hear some ideas on things the community would like to see changed, implemented, or removed.
In the meantime I will be looking for another person or two to help moderate. If you’re interested just message me directly.

Have a question that may not need a whole post? Maybe want to have a discussion thats visible to more for longer than a post? This will also serve as a suggestion box.
Still, keep business to private messages.

I tried to wing it with my own pattern in the upper right. Obviously a fail so I bought a pattern and used all suggested materials (5mm, contact cement, heat gun). The shoulder and hip patterns were easy enough but I had a lot of trouble with this one and felt some areas couldve used angled cuts when they didnt. Anyway the thing is together but the seams are starting to come apart a bit in the circled area and it doesnt hug my leg as well as the pattern shows so I have to walk funny even after using a heat gun to curve the pieces before and after gluing. I can only shape it so far before the seams start popping

Thinking of making more to the finger toxin area. Like a forearm bracer. Adding a jute rope prop as a necktie too.

I'm following a pattern and still not quite done because I have to cut out 180 chain bits FOR EACH CHAINSAW so that's gonna be fun. But I'm so excited to ball out for Halloween. (Also working on a no face mask lady loki helmet, and hopefully borderlands psycho costume too!)

The hardest part was doing the hair. So happy with how it turned out!

Reaching out to the experts on Eva foam. I need to glue some Eva foam gym mats together for a project. The bind needs to be strong and I know contact cement is best but there is no working time, the bond instantly when dried properly. I need a small window of working time, as the large mat pieces are attached like puzzle pieces, so need to be able to slide them together. Maybe need 30 seconds of working time. Are there techniques with contact cement to make it workable? CA safe super glue seems like the best option but those would seem to be better for small jobs. Advice would be greatly appreciated

I want to put a symbol on a bodysuit while making sure it does not damage it and I can use it later. I’ve thought about using cricket sticker sheets or sewing a fabric one on and seam ripping it off later but I’m concerned about fabric pilling and overall damage. Maybe I could use basting tape and fabric? Any tips would be great!
For reference, I am going to be Nightwing (F)! I also need tips on how to go about making cost effective batons :)

I’m working on a mahoraga cosplay and I accidentally made his headpiece too big, but I don’t have time to make a smaller one. I have no idea how to get this to sit on top of my head😔

Hi, I just received the Halo CE helmet from Jazwares, but it arrived with some imperfections on the visor. I was wondering if there’s any way to make them less noticeable?
It has a metallic, gold-chrome finish.

I want to make functional (as in pull the trigger and the hammer cocks back and forth) 3d printed blue rose from Devil May Cry, the revolver that Nero uses
but all the files I found online aren't semi auto. Can anyone help me find a file that is? or send me one if you have it?

I want to make some props for a Halloween party im going to this year, specifically an axe and roundshield. Ive heard that xps or Eva foam are popular for making props and I have a small amount of experience with shaping those, but i have no idea when it comes to painting, attaching, or pretty much anything else. Any advice us welcome, or if there are some particularly good videos or articles please link them.

For Halloween this year, I am going as Dr. Ellie Sattler from Jurassic Park. I have most of my costume put together, but I’d like to add a walkie talkie/two-way radio to my belt. I thought about buying one, but they’re all so expensive and I really have no idea when or if I’d ever use them again. Even some of the prop ones they sell online can be pretty expensive. I’d seen a really cool phone case that looks like a walkie talkie but doesn’t fit my iPhone size (I have a 15 pro).
I’m considering trying to make one out of a small cardboard box and other items I have laying around my house. The other idea I came up with was to buy the cheapest black iPhone case I could fine and glue a few dials on the back and some sort of antenna to make it look like a walkie talkie, the benefit to that it would also allow me to keep my phone on me without ruining the “vibe” of my outfit.
All that being said, what do you all think is the best idea? You can vote in the poll (I’ve never used that feature before so I hope it works) or just answer in the comments. Thanks in advance!

I'm planning to make a sword for a cosplay, but I've never made any kind of prop before, so I'm pretty much starting from zero.
I'm wondering what would be easier for a complete beginner: finding someone who can 3D-print the sword for me (since I can purchase .STL model of this sword), or trying to make it from scratch using something like EVA foam?
I'm a bit worried that making it myself might be harder than it looks, especially since I have no experience with any of this. On the other hand, I'm not sure how much work is involved in 3D printing either, especially with assembling, sanding, price, and painting everything.
For those of you who've made cosplay props before, what would you recommend? Is making a sword from scratch actually doable for a beginner, or would I be better off going with 3D printing?

I am trying to make Gabriel’s (from ultrakill) spear which is technically made of light (or something like that). I want to print a hollow spear so I can have led strips inside that will diffuse to make the whole spear look like a solid glowing spear made of light (see picture). Anyone know what materials/colors would work well and what thickness it should be? (I’m planning to use yellow LED strips so color isn’t as important)

I painted eva for the first time and got color uneven. Is there a way to fix it somehow?

Hello Everyone
I am looking for a way to make a Flamethrower Prop.
But with working fake flames.
I was thinking about ribbons in the cannon with a fan behind.
If any of you already did one do you have tips for me.
Thank you

Just wanting to share these photos.
Edit: The inspiration is from Spiritwalker to make the costume but I heavily got into cryptid stuff two years ago with the design from a drawing I did back then.

This surprisingly only took me around 3 hours — slow I know — but I’m really happy with how it turned out ,considering I handmade it…. (It looks a lot better far away/in dim lighting.. xC I’ve also included my progress above :D)
(The main reason I made this was for a HABIT/Evan cosplay... but I probably will just randomly wear it out in public one day — because I AM actually a fan of death proof myself LOL xd)
