They went for edgy cringe interactions but ended up with genuine antipathy for each other.

Gary was pissed because Ricky was pretty shitty in the way he went about things with this entire production. He led him to believe one thing and then sprung this "it's just a prank bro" thing on him without warning. Gary felt completely disrespected and I can understand why he behaved the way he did.

This is deliberate cringe. Both The Larry Sanders Show and The Office were well established as helping to establish the "cringe-comedy" genre.

It was genuine, Garry explained afterwards that he was expecting a laid back interview for his own show first but when he entered his house Ricky's camera crew was already filming, he said he was upset about it.

They agreed to do interviews for each other's show but we can see Ricky at the end denying to give him an interview because of how uncomfortable he was and leaving immediately.

Garry may have been feeling that way, but I feel like the interview wouldn't have been much different if everything went the way he would have been "comfortable" with. I didn't really feel the cringe, if anything I thought the interview was too short.

You mean Tim, not Jim.

It's not 100% a cringe comedy but so many scenes with Hank were peak cringe, I think it's fair to say it helped to establish cringe comedy

I think Garry just picked up on what kind of guy Ricky is from the get go and refused to make him feel in charge

I think Shandling later said that he was trying something new in this interview, basically using it to test a potential character for a project, but he didn't let Gervais know beforehand, hence the awkwardness.
