my personal theory is that most old people are depressed because they don't play video games

This one in particular was also depressed because he was trans (despite he tried to downplay it later). And because CIA performed inhumane experiments on him.

trans representation in terrorism finally

Ted

ted was trans ???

He was. While he tried to get help from his psychiatrist, he didn't admit his illness and simply decided that he's cooked anyway so no human life is too valuable to him.

what illness, transgenderism ? yikes, unless you mean that it was perceived as a mental illness at the time

I think trauma from the murray experiments compounded with his personality flaws might be the defining factors

Dysphoria, of course. Not to mention tons of other traumas CIA inflicted on him.

There's nothing that outs you as extremely privileged and living in a bubble more than stating "actually life is just too easy"

I've thought about this since I was young. Perception is the difference. Having access to so much, seeing so much comparison, and being removed from our direct biological survival needs, in order to have basic "stability" can easily cause more depression and existentialism.

"Go live in a forest now" a commenter says. That does not address the fundamental issue. You obviously know modern society is out there, and already have this all in your head.

If you were born into a primitive village... Yes life would objectively be much worse on the surface. But there would be direct meaning to living... Must get hunt/gather for food. Must tend to the crops, must help build structure for safety, must help start fire, must help craft tool in order to help obtain food/build shelter Must reproduce to continue humanity... Etc etc...

it's not hmm must I work at meaningless repetitive job that I feel no desire for and try to scrape by, should I go to school and risk debt or lack of enjoyment or unemployment. What do I eat? Well I don't want to be fat, so even though this hyperglycemic food with engineered ultra-palatable flavoring will immediately satiate my hormonal hunger signaling, and deliver a biological response many orders of magnitude greater than what my ancestors would ever see, this is actually a very a bad idea and will make me feel worse over time. I must also consider my financials from meaningless repetitive job removed from my survival needs to eat, I don't want to be broke, well because I want/need money for things, oh well fuck I want money for bad things because I need to put money into savings and retirement, and I really do want a house. Oh but everything is engineered to hijack my neurology and get me to buy things that aren't needed for my inherent survival. Oh fuck and I also really must avoid that damn little globalist box that contains the existential horrors of the entire world that I was never meant to see or manage to cognitively budget for past small social communities and the neighboring tribes. It is worth noting this globalist box of horrors also hijacks my neurology that was meant to give a positive response to obtaining food and building shelter and protecting the village from wild animals... So my brain now spends its time in perpetual confusion as survival seems to go despite the conflicting neurological response and that my internal monologue is telling me I'm not doing the right thing at life...

You know?

Dude i think you just need a job you actually like.

or do something different in your day to day.

I do like my job lol. Most of my struggle with life probably comes from executive functioning issues. But honestly I've grown less depressed of life. Thoughts are still there though.

Nah I got plenty of shit I like working on that makes me happy. It's more just thinking about everything else that comes with life and the shit you have to manage that's irritating.

This is the American terrorist and mathematician Ted Kaczynski, also known as the Unabomber, famous for his quote "The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race."

He has a manifesto, where he describes how much he hates modern society and wishes to return to the world before the industrial revolution, which he used as an excuse to bomb airplanes using home made bombs. However, if you read his private diaries, you can see that his real motivation was just anger at people in general, and that he wanted to kill as many people as he could just for the sake of murder, and not for some greater purpose.

Despite that, his manifesto isn't just empty ramblings, he had legitimate complaints in it that resonate with people all over the world, which is why you might see his face used as a reaction image when you hear something terrible happening with technology, like AI being used to bomb people on the other side of the world more efficiently.

We can't all be perfect but leave it to the leftists to continue with our purity tests. 🙄🙄

He actually specified on several occasions that he disagrees with general direction the left was taking and disliked leftist political view. However he also disliked right wing since they were much more likely to be friendly with corporations and companies which he hated.

Look, people are not a monolith and we are all very different because that strengthens us as a whole. I do not expect someone who gets satisfaction from programming to understand my bone-deep need to be outside and in the dirt, doing and making. I am not an indoor creature, just as many are not outdoor creatures. But by taking away these choices and experiences from children, we’re creating swaths of empty people who cannot connect to the world and don’t understand why. Is digital socialization good for you? Congrats! I literally started hallucinating during COVID for no reason other than I didn’t have enough contact with my friends and family. What works for one person is a cage in hell for many others

MINIMUM REQUIRED EFFORT.

u/HudRoss 3d ago

I think Ted was right but to the point where capitalist society within a liberal framework denies any real worthwhile meaning towards work. Since we don't own the things we produce meaning all the time we spend at work amounts to nothing.

u/PiusTheCatRick 5d ago

Literally nothing is stopping you from dropping everything, selling your personal belongings and going to live in the wilderness for the rest of your life where you'd definitely be doing a ton to survive.

You know why people don't do that? Because it fucking sucks.

6

u/Tangibilite 4d ago

Because community is a very important factor in human life and completely giving everything and everyone up is just destroying oneself for a martyrdom no one will care about.

-2

u/PiusTheCatRick 4d ago

Precisely. Odds are, the reason OOP feels like shit is because he never actually became part of any community in the first place.

2

u/Tangibilite 4d ago

It's a fate that comes to many.

The 'male loneliness epidemic' was actually always just the 'human loneliness epidemic' all along and we've been lonelier for way longer than we realize.

I genuinely can't tell if this is sarcasm.
