Sometimes to party, one must ask where the party is at

In my degree program, it seems pretty normal for people to be isolated just because of the workload. A lot of us hardly get to see the sun, it feels like. Some people manage to find others in the program early on to trauma bond with, but if you didn’t it’s kinda hard to see anyone consistently enough to make real friends in my experience.

nah you're not a lost cause lol. transferring in as a sophomore is lowkey the hardest way to make friends because everyone already found their dorm people freshman year

if you're at the rec anyway try a club sport or an intramural, way easier than walking into a random party. when i was around boulder the outdoor club trips were where people actually talked to each other

No you’re not alone, I’m a freshman here and half of the time all I do is study or spend time outside. Having a hard time connecting with people tbh.

Thanks atleast we're in this together. My freshman year I also didnt know anyone, I thought changing schools would help with it but I brought it with me. I hope you can turn it around soon

I’m not exaggerating when I say this is a great way to do this! Put the details in a couple of group chats and talk to some people in your classes/major

What’s stopping you from improving your social life?

Are you interested in meeting new people?

Growing a community of friends doesn’t happen on its own.

I want to meet new people I'm clearly bad at it

Not alone. I’m also a transfer student and now I’m graduating next semester lonely asf.

Check out student groups and clubs! There are over 400 and a great way to meet new people.

You'll have to put yourself out there and be open to trying things you wouldn't be interested in by yourself. Building connection takes a lot of time and consistency

I know it does so i have no idea how people had already made so many friends when school just started

Try theatre? They rehearse all the time so they’re always socializing. Set building, stage management, dare I say acting. I would think intramural sports and ski and hiking clubs hang-out often as well. Get a part time job? Built-in friends in the workplace.

I've never done anything theatre, skiing interests me but ive never actually been skiing im from honolulu. I dont think people who do go skiing would want to take me on

The time you spend scrolling on your phone could be spent talking to people. You have to put yourself out there. It might feel uncomfortable, but no one’s going to hand you a social life on a silver platter. You have to make it happen. Having a social life after college is way harder, so take advantage and develop those skills now. Take the initiative.
