Transferring to CU Boulder Fall 2027 — Housing, Roommates, and Making Friends?

Hi everyone! I’m planning to transfer to CU Boulder in Fall 2027 as a sophomore, and I have a few concerns about housing and the social aspect of transferring.
I know housing in Boulder can be competitive and that students typically start looking for apartments pretty early. However, I’m hesitant to seriously look into housing or commit to anything until I know whether I’ve been accepted.
I’m also unsure how to go about finding roommates, especially since I won’t already know many people at CU.
Another concern I have is making friends. Since I won’t be attending as a freshman or living in the dorms, I’m worried it might be harder to meet people and form friendships when other students have already had a year to establish their social circles.

For anyone who has transferred to CU Boulder:

When did you start looking for housing, and how did you navigate that before getting accepted?
How did you find roommates?
Was it difficult to make friends as a transfer student, especially while living off campus?
Do you have any advice or anything you wish you’d known before transferring?
I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experiences!

hi! i transferred last minute this semester and i had about a month to find housing and there were so many options still with only a short amount of time before move in. i will say on campus housing is difficult to get if you aren’t a first year student but there are options for transfer students so i would prioritize that first. i was lucky enough to get along with my roommate and integrated into her friend group but besides that i’ve honestly had a really hard time meeting new people. most people start looking for housing super early so they can live in a house on the hill with their friends but if you are looking for just yourself it’s really easy to find rooms last minute. as for advice id just say make as many connections with other transfer students as you can!! people here are really friendly but it definitely is hard meeting people when you aren’t in a freshman dorm. good luck with application you won’t regret transferring here!!

ALSO I wanna add that a letter of recommendation is not required in the transfer application but if you have an employer or professor or anyone that you think could advocate well for you I would definitely ask them to write you a letter. I didn’t have great stats and I’m pretty sure this helped me get into the school!
