use this on your own spell with storm to get over twice the storm value...

Fun line, but in formats with storm I'd rather use [[Remand]] or [[Narset's Reversal]] for that. Though I suppose this is a bit better for the versatility of hitting your opponent's stuff too 🤔

So like, playing a second copy of the same spell?

Wow, i can pay UU and the spell's mana cost twice to get +2 Storm count?

If that isn't value, i don't know what is

You keep all the copies of the original spell with storm, cast this while the original is on the stack, go up 1 storm count. The recast the spell with storm for a whole second set of copies +2 since the count went up, yes

You hit the storm spell and cast it again, retriggering storm, to double your storm copies. Like the old [[Remand]] on your [[Brain Freeze]] line.

Kinda reminds me of [[Rethink]], but better

Definitely the closest comparable

i like the design of this card an awful lot. at first glance it looks like a bad [[Remand]], but the original spell isn't returned to hand it is put in exile. so while the caster can recast it, they can only do so this turn if they have the mana. so situation-ally it is sometimes better than [[No More Lies]] and sometimes worse. It also goes around "can't be countered" effects such as [[Cavern of Souls]], [[Hexing Squelcher]], etc. well done!

Clean design and clean flavor text.

So basically if they've spent over half their curve on one spell this is strictly superior to counterspell and even exiles spells that can recur.

And if they don't try to curve out because this threat is in your hand...

There's no real playing around this, except that it happens to be bad against cheap spells later in the game. I'd say a sidegrade to counterspell and is worse most of the time. The real upside you'd want for this would be to have a more flexible cost than UU I think, rather than just exiling the spell.

How would an exceptionally powercrept Rethink fair nowadays?

By comparison this circumvents uncounterability, exiles the spell, and has the affected player pay mana equal to the mana cost instead of the mana value, all for {U}{U} instead of {2}{U} which makes it more fitting for monoblue decks.

This is kind of insane methinks

So basically [[Reprieve]] but blue and it can target your own spells? (Minus the draw a card thing)

Isn't blue Reprieve just [[Remand]]?

Reprieve is mostly better, baring anything that cares specifically about countering.

It gets around uncounterable while remand doesn't

Having to recast it this turn is a very heavy restriction.

Yeah, reprieve is good because it can save your spell (suppose the oppo countered it) even if you can’t recast immediately. This doesn’t have that upside.

In the other hand, reprieve is bad because oppo could recast later (if you are the one doing the countering), but this doesn’t have that defect.

So they are related but have very different pros and cons.

Given other similar cards have an additional effect like drawing or copying with the same mana cost I'd argue this could almost be a single blue mana.

Those other spells typically give the option for the spell to be cast on a later turn. I think this could cost {1}{U}, but apart from that I think this is perfectly balanced
