Question Why me suck :C
I keep dying! In the bosses, in the runbacks, in the exploration.
I practice on enemies, yippie. I easily kill them.
until that is, I do not. and that is sad. for I died more to the rats poison than the boar, just to sneak past said pig anyway.
The gargoyles are making me headbutt walls.
but they're runbacks are apparently not even the worst ones :C I too dumb for this game.
:C
Edit:

Second Edit:
LEGGGGENDDDDS I DID IT!!!!!!!!! Thank you all for your tips and encouragement!

You’re not alone, I think this is a pretty universal experience when starting out in these games. The runs backs in ds1 can be pretty long, and often times frustrating, but after having to do them a million times you might figure out a way to safely get through it, or sometimes it can be fun to learn a speed run strat people use to get through the run back.
Feeling like you’re making tons of progress and then getting humbled by a boss is also par for the course 😂

Try swinging your sword. Pointy end towards enemy. Oh and praise the sun! ☀️

For the gargoyles there is a elevator that leads back to firelink shrine in the church so the run back is super short, also for the fight don’t be afraid to summon Solaire or someone else for help against them since it makes the fight significantly easier

u/No_Hate_Good_Vibes 2d ago
I am using said lift, because I have kindled firelink's bomb fire (unless it start's kindled I don't remember)
I don't know about summoning, Because it feels kind of cheaty like being carried. I don't know. Thanks for the comment and help.6
u/Icy_Amount_7736 2d ago
Summoning is a intended mechanic and it buffs the enemies health, it’s completely fine to use summons

No, you're not too dumb for this or any game. It just has a rhythm you have to get into, and until that happens it will feel off. If you're enjoying your time, keep at it. If you aren't, then consider watching some other people play, look where and when they attack vs. roll, vs. block, and that will give you a better idea.
Also, dying literally doesn't matter, you just start right back up, so don't be afraid of it.
have fun!
EDIT: Also, you're in a major gauntlet of the game. There's just two real gauntlets in this game and this is one of them. This is the hardest part, especially if you're not leveling up a lot and upgrading your weapons.

u/No_Hate_Good_Vibes 2d ago
No clue what the last bit means but okay Thanks.
3
u/Ciappatos 2d ago
The edit? let's see, a gauntlet is a set of encounters that represent a spike in difficulty, that once cleared, the game becomes easier again. Leveling up is putting souls into your character (mostly your hp, endurance and primary damage stat) and upgrading your weapon means getting the blacksmith at the bottom of the parish (where you are now) to put titanite into your main weapon to make it do more damage.

Its ok, dying is a part of learning, like falling is part of learning to ride a bike

Gargoyle runbacks can still be pretty gnarly for a beginner. Main issue you’re having I guess is the dancing guy buffs the hollows and then they annihilate you?
Either way the common thread between them and the rats is, it seems you struggle with groups of enemies. You’ll just have to learn patience, kiting, and not to panic dodge. It’s ok it’ll come eventually.
Have fun, it’s unironically fun to suck, makes progress more rewarding.

u/No_Hate_Good_Vibes 2d ago
No, I killed the dancing guy, my main issue is having to spend 2 minutes killing everything to die in 30 seconds to the gargoyle, to then lose any warming up I had by fighting enemies again.

u/Electronic_Screen387 2d ago
Honestly you can just run past most of those guys straight to the boss fight. No need to waste your HP on a bunch of scrubs.
1
u/No_Hate_Good_Vibes 2d ago
They hit me anyway, I don't know what I'm doing wrong I've removed all my armour so my dodges are faster
2
u/Electronic_Screen387 2d ago
You can wear armor up to about 25% of your max weight without losing too much dodge speed. Might help tank any stray hits.
2
u/No_Hate_Good_Vibes 2d ago
It's not fast enough for my skill issue.
2
u/Electronic_Screen387 2d ago
You could go in the opposite direction, throw on the heaviest armor you can find, grab the biggest bonking stick you can find and just tank your way through.
2
u/No_Hate_Good_Vibes 2d ago
That feels like the cheese way to play, I do like cheese. but not in my video games.
I say as I throwing alluring skulls into fire to kill a metallic boar.

You’re still so early into the game, it’s possible you just haven’t found a weapon or play style you like yet. Are you trying different things out? Are you upgrading weapons you like? There’s also no shame in grinding through this area a couple times to practice, collect souls, and level up. This whole area is designed to teach you the skills you need to play the entire game. Try to go slow, learn their patterns, lure enemies towards you one by one, practice parrying and dodging, baiting backstabs, etc. Like 90% of dark souls enemies are fairly predictable in that they’re typically in the same place at the same time and will hit you with the same moves. Think of it like you’re stepping into a play that they’ve been rehearsing and look for the openings. That makes the run backs easier. Re: the gargoyles, if you’re in human form, you can also summon an npc to help you with the fight if you’re really struggling. All that said—you don’t suck! The first section of the game is intentionally pretty hard. I got stuck in undead berg for DAYS, but I beat some of the harder later game bosses on the first or second try. If you keep going, it’ll just click and you’ll get it.

If you have an alluring skull throw it away from undead mob, if youre human and stand out gargoyle fog gate you can summon Solaire for your boss fight.glhf

You're very early in the game. My advice is to find a weapon you enjoy and upgrade it to at least +4/5 for the gargoyle fight. You want to try and kill the first gargoyle before the second spawns.
Can you let us know what level your character is? And what your stats are?

u/No_Hate_Good_Vibes 2d ago
I completely missed your comment!, thanks. I'm using the default knight broadsword it's 4+ and I killed the gargoyles!

ill be real, i suck at souls but i have hundreds of hours in video games in general. This game required more intuition than anything and all my hundreds of hours playing other video games paid off. After repeated tries I was able to beat a lot of the bosses, and with even more tries the rest of them. Yet, if I were to try again from level 1, I would die again unnecessarily in spots that I already have been through several times

We all sucked at one point. Embrace the death. Embrace the grind. Embrace going hollow.

Hiii I’m curious about any updates 🥺? Don’t give up on the game please it’s so fun!!

Everybody sucks at Dark Souls. That's not weird . That's natural
What's weird is when Git Gud happens

u/No_Hate_Good_Vibes 2d ago
IT will happen when I've beaten the game 2000 times and robots take over the world :>

u/Backstab_Fisher 2d ago
Just play the game more dude u have no idea the dedication people have put into it

u/hiwhatsausername 2d ago
yeah i feel you. i’m currently in my first play through of DS and it was a cakewalk until i got to the undead parish and keep running into enemies like the black knights that i’ve been avoiding. i’m trying to learn how to parry which is something i’ve avoided doing in both this game and in elden ring because i can’t ever get the timing right lol
2
u/No_Hate_Good_Vibes 2d ago
I'm getting better at parries, each enemy has a different set of attacks I think, and also different timings and you can't parry every attack, I think the main rule at least I follow is.
if it's humanoid and has a weapon and a shield you can parry the weapon but not the shield. just block the attack first and then practice that way :>

u/Old-Drop-3493 2d ago
Upgrade your weapon at the smith if you havent yet. It helps a lot.
Also, the gargoyles have patterns and weaknesses that arent that bad to exploit once you recognize them.
Also if you want to use a shield (which is often useful) you will want to upgrade your fatigue bar. I actually find the green fatigue bar is more useful than the health bar at times.

Light armour will do wonders. Hell, Andre and a couple thousand souls can even help you upgrade it a bit.
Armour actually matters a LOT in this game, especially if you upgrade it.

Killed pinwheel, went for a quick look at tomb of the giants, fell following the prism stones, then got ganked by the wheel skeletons. Lost all my runes. Went to get the light miracle for the next try, died to cats and hunters. Wrong way. Got the right item, got reamed succesively by the guardian. At least 15 trys. Gave up trying to read him and tanked him with havels set. Just stood there hacking while he tried to bite my head off. (Dont let anyone tell you armour doesn't do anything) At this point I dont care if I lose runes cos im gonna, still hurts though. Good game, second half is brutal.

u/No_Hate_Good_Vibes 2d ago
I understood like 10% of that which is horrifying for later on, 😨.

😁 I believe the guardian is DLC territory (i bought the remastered version) and the difficulty spike is significant.

Most people reach a point in these games where they get stuck on something and nothing seems to work. While this game does reward persistence, that only goes so far. At a certain point during your session your skill is going to peak, and then go downhill. This is when it's time to stop for the day or for a few hours.
If nothing you are doing is working and there are no other options, take a break.
2
u/No_Hate_Good_Vibes 2d ago
The break worked! I beat the gargoyles yesterday!

u/vagina_candle 1d ago
Congratulations! Just remember that going forward if you feel your progression is hitting a wall.

Read a guide dude.
2
u/No_Hate_Good_Vibes 2d ago
I aim for an actual experience however my skill issue is a problem.
1
u/Positive_Initial_218 2d ago
if you go for an actual experience you're gonna struggle, also you will miss a lot of content. There's no harm in looking at a guide, it won't make fighting the bosses any easier, it will just give you an idea of what you'd want to do and what you'd not want to do in terms of stats, hidden bonfires etc. And to get better keep dying.

u/wrakiya 2d ago
Don't be so hard on yourself, every dark souls enjoyer has been where you are. Important is to persevere, you got this, take a break if it's too much and come back to it.
