Discussion Yes I finished DS1 today at 52 years old

I took things a bit backwards, I started re playing 4/5 years ago on my free time and Elden Ring was a massive joy for me. I went after that for Bloodborne, DS3 , Sekiro (that I had completely dropped few years back) and Demons souls remastered . I enjoyed all of these and DS1 was a big miss for me. I remember I tried it many years back but I found it extremely hard and confusing I was not enjoying it. God of war was maybe more accessible for me at that time. But things change, even I am a semi old gamer the joy of choosing a build, learning move sets and triumph over a Boss that appears impossible in the beginning grew into me. Probably my skills grew as well although I don’t have the reflexes of my 20´s. I intend to play DS2 after that. So how is my judgement on DS1? Well honestly it’s up there .. it was an incredible game.. I was amazed by the level design.. not sure Fromsoft even replicated something close to it in the other games.. the variety / the Lore and the joy of the gameplay is fantastic.. Again , my Claymore carried me through the entire game, like in DS3 and Demons souls. These games are truly special and a total joy to invest hours and hours exploring , finding things running back to bosses that kicked you ass with a sentiment of revenge .. Thank you Fromsoft.. Let’s see what DS2 has to offer. I know it’s a mixed bag for a lot of people from what I read but I’ll play it and forge my own opinion on it.

I found Dark Souls to be more of an experience and a life lesson more than "just a game"...

I think the later in the series you play ds1 the harder it is to appreciate. Good for you! And good luck in Drangleich. It has many challenges for you. 45 here. Seasoned gamers unite lol

Good job, ds1 is an absolute classic! Now ds2 will be another kind of beast, the better tip I can give is don't play it like ds1 or ds3... it's a whole different game. Try to see it more like a turn-based rpg (it's still an action rpg, but quite slower paced than most souls/soulslikes). Oh, and upgrade agility if you want to improve your rolls' invincibility frames and also keep an eye on lifegems, they'll be your main healing items after you finish the first area after the game's main hub.

If you're a Claymore fan, you'll probably love the Drangleic Sword...

Respect, man! I don’t know anyone else who plays Souls games at your age. I’m 16, and I’ve been playing Souls games since I was 13. I used to be really passionate about them, but lately, nothing has been able to bring that excitement back. DS2 was actually one of my favorites, even though a lot of people weren’t too happy with it.

Ds2 is really fun and in some ways easier. Enemies despawn, you can dual wield, you can use a soul vessel to respec, souls are plentiful. Look up adp stat and agility before you play. Have fun!

Congrats! I initially didn't like DS2 because I made the mistake of going to the equivalent of the graves in DS1, which is an area close to the starting point, but that you shouldn't go to yet. Then when I went to the correct next area, I started enjoying it more and more. It's honestly really good and the DLCs are my favourite DLCs of any FromSoftware game I've played so far. It is by no means perfect, but the level design and atmosphere are absolutely stellar. Just look up some info about ADP beforehand. It plays differently to Demon's Souls or DS1 but it's very similar in vibe, especially to Demon's Souls.

I love DS2. It gets a lot of hate, but seriously give it a chance or two. Good luck!

I'm 62. Many players of souls games are older. I don't think it's the oddity you think it is. Anyway, welcome and praise the Sun.

I’m teasing you as a fellow grey bearded gamer. My clients and colleagues don’t get it either.
