Guide Best fun/OP build for a second playthrough of DS1?

I'm playing Dark Souls 1 for the second time, this time with a friend who's going through the game for the first time. On my first playthrough, I went with a pure Strength build, so I'd like to try something different this time.

My role is mostly going to be guiding my friend and letting him experience the game for himself, but I'll be there to help out if he gets stuck. That said, I still want to have fun with my own character, so I'm looking for a build that's both powerful and entertaining to play.

I was thinking about going with an Intelligence/magic build, but I'm open to other options if there are more fun or overpowered builds in DS1.

What builds would you recommend for this kind of playthrough? I'm looking for something that feels different from a pure Strength build and can be really strong without making the game completely boring.

Mage heavy builds can be fun for sure! Done that more than anything else. Done right, they are powerful!

Pure strength builds with great club can be fun too. BIG BONK!

If you're guiding him (bold move if that's only your second playthrough, but whatever) being overpowered can be helpful at times. There's nothing more OP than magic in this game. I'd say go for it.

Naah I’m not really guiding it in the full sense; it’s mostly just an excuse for me to play through it again, haha.

Nice then, no judging. My best memories gaming are playing through DS3 with a friend I'd never thought he'd play any Souls game ever. I tried to be the most OP as I could but at the same time not interfere too much, so he could experience it as it was intended while, at the same time, having me as a guard.

If you want to be an even bigger bro in the experience... Min-max INT, VIT and END. Get a Falchion and get only the minimum DEX to use it. Upgrade it, but don't invest in DEX or anything else. Boost it with resins during bosses for easy, high DPS damage. When you arrive at Anor Londo infuse it with lighting, and be ready to spam two-handed R1s if Magic doesn't cut it against some bosses it in the end game. Also, don't forget to be always under 25% weight and have some poise at the same time.

Int is definitely the way to be OP, my go to build for pure fun in any FromSoft game will always be faith + lightning + whatever great sword feels good. Claymore is a classic, Zweihander in ds1 = pancakes for days. Whatever fits your play style will be more fun.

Personally I love being able to snipe with lightning and hit like a truck up close with a big sword and have gallons of healing to stack on top. Makes a great sunbro coop char too

Dex/faith or a mage build. Getting all of the boost gear makes int very strong early and allows you to budget int so you can afford spells. 16 int is more than enough for everything up to the Lordvessel. Dex faith would just be playing a dex build until you can get Sunlight Blade.

Blast everything with pyromancy. I like to kill Seath with chaos fire whip in a cast and a half. Soul level 1 is a lot of fun, and pretty easy once you get your damage, but it can be tedious so run pyro and use the spare low cost levels for hp attunement and 27 strength for two hand demon great machete. Should be good around level 60-80 and if you prioritize upgrading your glove and getting the sorcery ring early, you’ll end the game with a pretty low leveling cost to run new game plus with options if you want.

Use the boss soul weapons for the fashion souls as well, pyro boss weapon is a cool combo that doesn’t have you at level 120 to have a full build.

Princess Guard Cleric. That covenant is the only one with AOE healing to backup your friend during his journey, especially if you use both First Sun Ring and the ring you get from Gwynevere herself

Magic or pyro are infamously broken as hell but magic in particular do require a little more setup than stuff like the Zweihander before it gets really out of hand. Pyro is super easy to invest into comparatively while being almost if not as strong. Otherwise if you want something as/more broken than pure strength and isn't spells, try out the Great Scythe or Balders side Sword
