that’s a really strange place to have a side street like that.

u/Substantial_Echo5966 15h ago
Is this not Texas? The state of frontage roads and flyovers?
39
u/Upbeat-Dish7299 15h ago
The amount of times I drove past the service roads when I moved there thinking they were highway on ramps and not actual roads with businesses on them.

u/_jump_yossarian 12h ago
Worst and most dangerous infrastructure design in the country combined with idiot drivers. What could go wrong!
8
u/GroveStreet_CJ 10h ago
This is def Texas. Sam Rayburn Tollway in Denton County.
3
u/Wolfish_Jew 8h ago
lol this is like a half mile from my house. There’s a couple of weird side roads straight onto 121 which are all basically death traps
2
u/Temporary_Nail_6468 2h ago
I had to do a double take because the turn and on-ramp is very similar to where business 121 merges with 121 in Lewisville but there isn’t an off ramp or building construction. Trucks do the exact same thing there all the time.
-10
u/pseudoportmanteau 15h ago
Feeder road*, then, if we're talking about Texas
13
u/Upbeat-Dish7299 15h ago
Every person from Texas when I was there called them service roads. Including the people I worked with at the Texas DOT.
-14
u/pseudoportmanteau 15h ago
And every person I know in texas calls them feeder roads. So now what?
12
u/Upbeat-Dish7299 15h ago edited 14h ago
I don’t know you from a can of paint. I can confirm my sources and not yours. So I’m right and you’re wrong./
It’s regional. Different areas of Texas call them different things. We’re both wrong and right depending on the area.
-15
u/pseudoportmanteau 15h ago
So then why did you have to make a comment invalidating my example which you admit is also correct? Seems bizarre to be that you are bothered by a lighthearted comment about regional names for things so much..
11
u/Upbeat-Dish7299 14h ago edited 14h ago
Because I looked up if they were called something different in different areas after. Not that difficult to figure out. Only one bothered here is you. Way to project.
Why did you try to invalidate mine and the other persons comment whose answer is more correct than ours?
6
-9
u/pseudoportmanteau 14h ago
So then did you get told by the people you know in Texas or did you look it up? Typical redditor. Full of shit but HAS to always be right.
12
u/mothwingmirror 14h ago
Not to throw a curveball here but I'm from Texas and I've never heard anyone say service road or feeder road. Everyone here usually says frontage road or access road. It's probably a regional thing.

You corrected him first and he re-corrected you. Don’t be such a baby, you’re acting like a Texan
5
u/FollowThisNutter 13h ago
I no longer live in Texas, but grew up near San Antonio and have family in DFW and this is literally the first time I've come across the term "feeder road". Mostly hear "frontage", occasionally "service".

u/girlrits00 13h ago
I've lived in both Houston and DFW. They call them feeder roads in Houston, and service/frontage roads in Dallas. They're the exact same thing, and how someone refers to them will tell you exactly where they're from without you having to ask, lol.
4
3
u/Buttholes_N_Boobies 12h ago
🤣 the downvotes you're getting...
"Feeder" in Houston
"Access" in DFW
"Frontage" official terminology in the engineering plats used by DOT in Austin.

u/shizzaff 14h ago
This is how the highways are in Texas and Oklahoma it's the absolute worst

OP doesn't want to hear that. This sub teaches you that defensive driving is dumb and doesn't stroke the ego. You gotta tell OP: "Bro! WTF! You were 💯 in the right and that truck was 💯 in the wrong!"

To be fair, that is probably a bad road to get out of with the exit from the interstate right there. It doesn't make up for the fact that the semi did not even stop though.
33
1
u/Momentosis 30m ago
There's exits like this every mile. Trucker should've went to the next one over after a stoplight.
17
16
10
u/_jump_yossarian 12h ago
trucker never came to a stop, it was a right turn only exit, crossed multiple lanes, crossed the gore, cut off at least one car with ROW and the idiots on this sub are like "you're going to fast".
5
u/Which_Initiative_882 15h ago
This looks like Texas. If so, yeah, everything about this is situation normal down that way.
4
u/shigdebig 12h ago
What's the speed limit on this exit ramp? Usually you need to slow down, you were going 60.
11
u/FunRutabaga24 12h ago
These service roads are typically 50 or 55
1
u/cmdr_scotty 10h ago
Was curious about that too, in my area these types of roads are 40mph
1
u/FunRutabaga24 9h ago
Yeah they're pretty high in Texas. I'm also used to them being closer to 40/45.
0
u/crasagam 11h ago
There it is, there’s the post blaming OP
6
u/shigdebig 10h ago
Defensive driving means being able to use the brakes. We can see this truck from a mile away. Slow down a bit sooner.
OP was asking for this crash OP you're dressed like a whore.
4
2
u/Fearce2 15h ago
That was like the other day when a typical left turn at a traffic light that I’ve witnessed 100s of semis clear perfectly, this semi went right 2 lanes of traffic to make the left turn in front of a wave of cars going 50.
What in his mind made him think he couldn’t clear it? lol
2
u/SpyderBruh12 10h ago
Maybe his trailer is longer? Maybe he doesn’t have a dump valve? Maybe he’s never been there before? Maybe he’s really top heavy and if you turn too abruptly you risk tipping the truck. Lots of things to consider when driving a CMV

u/Countd00kies 13h ago
They need to redo that ramp for sure. That accident would have gotten the DOT and engineers in a big lawsuit

bro really said altima energy. you know the stereotype: no headlights, no turn signals, and absolutely zero concept of yielding. it's like they think the car comes with an invisibility cloak for other traffic. pure chaos on wheels.

u/PrairiePuppies 17h ago
Why were you going Mach Jesus on a service road? It's kind of hard to make a determination of the time needed to turn a big rig (speaking as a former trucker), when the only oncoming vehicle's speed is in miles per second.
37
u/downvotetheboy 17h ago
they were going 60 exiting the high way.
4
u/Odd_Dragonfruit_2662 14h ago
And were supposed to slow to 45, not that anyone does.
2
u/_jump_yossarian 12h ago
That's an advisory limit. Not sure what the limit on the frontage road is but probably at least 50 MPH.
1
-1
u/BeeBright7933 16h ago edited 16h ago
And were supposed to slow down as they approached the service road, doesn't look like they did, truck shouldn't have been crossing so many lanes and is an illegal turn but speed does play a role here
9
u/dheldkdk 15h ago
How does it play a role? Access roads are, what, 45? The outcome of the video doesn’t change
7
-3
u/shigdebig 12h ago
If they were traveling the speed limit, the truck could better judge the timing.
2
u/dheldkdk 11h ago
The timing to jump over 3 lanes blocking the entire road?
1
-8
u/BeeBright7933 15h ago
Slowing down would of left him in a better position to avoid the truck, probably leaving him behind it in a lane as opposed to being forced all the way left to avoid it. Still being in a lane able to turn right is a big difference.
-3
u/Buttholes_N_Boobies 12h ago
Astute obeservation! We don't know if OP's brakes were malfunctioning and he was unable to bleed speed in time to avoid a situation like this and then they miraculously began working once he was right on the truck.
In any case, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for OP.
-4
u/Buttholes_N_Boobies 13h ago edited 12h ago
🤫 you’re gonna get downtoots, OP is here looking for encouragement of his bad decisions… not criticism.
You gotta phase your comment like:
“Oooooh, wow! You sure are good at driving fast! So impressive! That dumb dumb truck was being naughty 😔 It’s ok OP, you’re still a good driver for stopping. UwU 🥺 👉👈”
Comments like that will get upvotes on posts like this.
Edit: why the downvotes fam? I'm giving praise to OP like he wanted 😢

I was pole position when they opened I10. I was in a position to be home soon. 85mph. Then my girl sees rest area 1 mile. I gotta pee. O man. I was fine with it. Coming out to get on the highway the traffic was a blur.
-19
u/Aarionwashere 16h ago
You had plenty of time to slow down. Trucks can't turn easy and we need more people to give way to them
4
u/appa-ate-momo 11h ago
Holy shit that’s not the point.
You don’t get to cut off right-of-way traffic “because they have time to slow down.”
3
u/Ok_Explanation5631 11h ago
Do you pull out from places with this mindset? Because that’s illegal and dangerous.
1
u/moogs_writes 10h ago
Lots of people need everything to be made incredibly easy for them because their brain can’t handle adapting to a situation.
Yes, the OP had a whole lifetime to slow down or even go around, but then they wouldn’t have gotten the opportunity to show us this nothing burger of a video
-32
u/MetaCardboard 16h ago
Was it an Asian woman driving the truck? I bet it was.
12
u/Routine-Cat1556 16h ago
Racism. Also stupid to just tell Family Guy's joke but worse.
-18
u/MetaCardboard 16h ago
It wasn't racism, because it was specifically referencing Family Guy's joke. I wasn't just coming out of the blue like "oh Asian women am I right" lol. And having been a driver for like 2 decades, it's a mix of all types of people who drive like shit.

24
u/Specialist-Grass-352 17h ago
you mean you think the truck is allowed to cross multiple lanes and make an illegal cross into an onramp from an intersection where it's not allowed to in the first place?
6
u/Fantastic_Target_703 16h ago
This is exactly why requirements on getting your driving license should be way higher.
4
u/appa-ate-momo 11h ago
No they did not.
You don’t get to cut off right-of-way traffic “because they left you room” to slow down.
