privacy optimization - move from mac? Future internet?

privacy optimization - move from mac? Future internet?

Hello everyone,

I'm currently in the process of optimising my privacy. My laptop is completely switched over to Linux (opensuse, have been using it alongside Windows for more than a decade).

Moving my Email from Outlook to Proton (thankfully never had Gmail)

Moving my cloud (which I really use minimally at all) to Proton Drive.

Social media - never had, never will.

There is a machine (main desktop) that is Mac OS, a M1 Mac Mini. I am thinking of replacing it with a Lenovo Tiny machine, AMD preferred (I like AMD and at least there is no Intel Management Enginge).

Would you replace the Mac Mini with a Lenovo or similar SFF or Tower PC and Linux? Or would you maximize Privacy on the Mac?

How safe is Private Relay with icloud?

How privacy safe is Mac OS in general?

I still have a minimal use for Windows (Fujitsu Document Scanner), which I plan on using with an isolated, non network connected small PC with Windows 10.

Now the second part:

With all the planning on maximizing privacy - there is a catch. In the UK it is already installed, part of the internet requires a government ID to be usable. Now if that spreads around Europe or worldwide, how affected are we? Doesn't that ruin all the effort to use a PC as private as possible?

i wouldn't put all my eggs in 1 basket like that. having your data in proton drive and your email in proton email means if they shut down your account/impose restrictions/do anything you lose EVERYTHING. also for privacy consider self hosting stuff or encrypting things you store in the cloud.

private relay is as safe as apple itself is. if you trust apple it's a phenomenal service. if you don't it does nothing for you. as for the ID in UK thing, just use VPNs like those in china do.

there will be a day where VPN's wont work anymore, they'll just ban them or blacklist their known IP's im afraid. The more countrys get age verification the faster it will happen

considering the amount of countries that have tried stopping VPNs, they will still work lol. thats how china and russia largely get connected.
