Help/Advice Asked to get off plane over $150 pet fee I had already paid

Post image
11.9k Upvotes

I flew from West Palm Beach to DTW to a small regional airport in Michigan yesterday. I had already registered, paid the pet fee in West Palm, received the tag, etc. No issues.

After a 2hr delay in Detroit, switching our gates, and finally getting seated on the next flight I hear… “If you’re flying with a pet, ring your call light.”

The gate agent came onto the plane and said bring your dog and ID and come back out to the gate desk. They said they had no record of me paying. I had tossed the receipt, but pulled up the $150 Delta card charge.

After two supervisors came over, they clicked around on the computer and couldn’t seem to bypass whatever warning in the system. Keep in mind, we are holding up an entire plane of people over a $150 charge. I am a Platinum Member (which shouldn’t matter) but have easily spent $20K with Delta this year.

Finally, I say for the sake of getting everyone out of here, I’ll just pay the $150 again and work it out with Delta afterwards. They happily took my card and charged me (again). The supervisor gave me my receipt and said “You know, I’m not even sure this is a second charge, maybe it’s your original receipt?” Spoiler alert - yes they charged me again 🙄

So, how should I go about ripping Delta a new one over further delaying an entire plane of people over a nickel? Photo of my alleged doggy contraband included.

Discussion My experience secretly upgrading to first for a girl friend trip.

I was reading on here about how others upgraded their parents etc on flights and decided to try it for an upcoming trip for me and a dear friend, who have been best friends for over 50 years.

I had her confirmation number so off to chat I go. I wanted this to be a surprise. I knew ahead of time what the upgrade price was according to my page. The agent quoted the price for the two first class seat upgrades.

The agent was happy to help. She took down my friends confirmation number, her date of birth, address etc, and upgraded her seat to the one I had chosen in first.

HOWEVER!! Once one seat was officially taken, the price sky-rocketed and the other seat next to her was now over 50% higher than it had been five minutes ago.

Not what I was wanting to pay but now we were in a pickle because these upgrades are non refundable.

I told the agent the quoted price for the two tickets was what I was expecting and after much going back and forth, she was able to do the two seats within a few dollars of the quoted price. Sheesh, that was nerve-wracking.

Hopefully my friend is excited at the upgrade. Just wanted to share what can happen when tickets are booked separately and one seat gets taken. That price for the other jumps!

I was rebooked after a cancellation and ended up in 1A from SEA to LAX yesterday. Perfect weather and an incredible view of Mount Rainier. If you are ever on that route, get the seat A in any row (left side of the plane) and open the blinds.

Mod Post Secretly upgraded my wife

I live in another state to prepare our house for the market, so my wife lives 3 hours flight away. She wants to come to help and see the old house. I purchased her a ticket on Delta and sent her the confirmation email. After that I noticed I could upgrade her to First for a little over $100 and did it. She does not know yet. After checking my Alaska account I noticed I was only 400 miles short for next milestone. So I bought a one way to her state on Alaska and a return flight on Delta to sit next to her. Last time I did this was when she was returning to the U. S. A. and I met her in Hawaii with roses to fly back. So I need to find some roses. I have always wanted to try the Delta Lounge since I have the credit card to get me in, but never flew to show a Delta ticket. She will be surprised when I board the plane to sit next to her in First Class.

Been flying more for work and family and love collecting stuff but it’s been erking me that I’ve never gotten one of the white bags that I’ve been wanting the most. If you’re in the NYC area and would want to trade for one of my bags let me know!

Discussion Delta decided to put me in economy the day i turned Diamond Medallion.

Today is the day I turn Diamond Medallion on a domestic flight for a work trip. I decided to use one of my regional upgrade certificates to advance from Comfort+ into Premium, as I rarely fly domestic and it’s nice when I can use them! Honestly, I was really excited to take this flight and have a comfortable experience with Delta. I’m not expecting anyone to come at me with balloons for reaching Diamond lol, but I was really looking forward to enjoying it (internally) with a decently comfortable seat. However yesterday when online check in opened up, i was getting error messages in the app saying there is a “problem with my reservation” and to check in at the airport. No longer could i see the fare class I booked, any seat, or any information regarding my reservations status. I contacted Delta and they said it was “simply because my upgrade was clearing” and “not to worry”. Today on my way to the airport I check the upgrade status list, and my name is nowhere on it. Also, the available seats are dwindling to 0. Even selecting an economy seat, only 2 seats are left to choose. Now im getting nervous because not only do I not have an upgrade- it seems I don’t even have a seat.

I check in at the gate and still- no seat assignment. I get to the gate and they “assign” me a seat ticket the second boarding starts, which is located in the back of the plane in economy seat 44. That’s not even the class fare I booked??? Contacting Delta, they say “ Thank you for your patience while I reviewed the reservation. After reviewing the history, it appears your Regional Upgrade Certificate did clear into Premium Select upgrade inventory; however, the upgrade was not fully processed onto your reservation.

Because of that, your check-in was impacted and you ultimately confirmed in Main Cabin, where your seat was assigned. Based on my review, this appears to have resulted from a processing issue with the upgrade rather than anything you did.”. They offered me $50 credit or 7500 miles… Instead of having a semi relaxing and fun experience on Delta, I’m in economy with a tiny dog barking in the row in front of me and i just spent $20 on a cheese box and Pringles 😵‍💫. Like I said, I’m not expecting a parade or anything but this is not exactly the warm welcome into Diamond Medallion I expected. Is this what’s to expect from Delta?

Discussion The Breast Cancer Fundraising

Is anyone else sick of the panhandling for breast cancer research money on Delta flights and having to listen to their 5-minute dissertation on it? I already pay out my ass for Delta flights and want to tell them to shut the fuck up when they ask for money which, I am sure very little of, will make it to the cause.

Discussion Dynamic pricing

I've flown Delta for years but will unfortunately have to start looking at other airlines until Delta can get prices back under control.

A one way that is usually $400-600 max should not be $2601 in main.

If I split up the legs and buy the tickets separately, it's $1500+ cheaper.

I can't believe this. In one week by checking the prices, they went up over $1000.

Help/Advice BOS>LIS-tight connections

Post image
• Upvotes

Disclaimer: If you have to take the shuttle from terminal A to E for Lisbon connection, you may miss your connection and the pilot may not hold flight. The staff will not be helpful and you will likely have to cover hotel cost if you miss connection.

I will personally avoid BOS in the future and be careful about with putting your belongings on the ground. I saw two mice walking around.

News Delta cancels DTW to KEF after driving out Icelandair and adds BOS to KEF instead

Very typical Delta behavior, fly a route until the competition gives up, and then cancel it yourself.

Another recent example of this was JetBlue and Delta flying JFK to LGW and now neither one of them do.

In general, Delta is focusing a lot of resources into the coastal hubs lately, meanwhile interior hubs have seen virtually no real growth or new destinations.

Help/Advice What should I do?

• Upvotes

So I recently took a trip to Kauai, as I was leaving, my flight was scheduled to depart at 6 pm. I get to the airport gate and as soon as I sit down, my flight was delayed to 8 pm. Kept waiting and eventually they said the aircraft needed maintenance. They didn’t have an estimated time for the maintenance to be finished. I was sitting right next to the desk so I could hear what was going on. They had to fly in a technician from Honolulu to do the maintenance, and when he finally got there and finished, it was already 2 am. So now they have to call a flight crew but they didn’t know what to do because TSA went home at midnight and the flight crew needed to go through TSA to enter the airport so they cancelled our flight and the BS excuse they gave was because of the pilots “fatigue hours”. They get on the announcement and say that they can’t hand out hotel vouchers because all their partner hotels have closed their front desks for the night. They told us to figure out our own accommodation and delta would reimburse us. I immediately start looking but there is really nothing around except a few luxury resorts. I had no choice because there were no Ubers picking us up from the airport and all other hotels in the area were closed, so I booked the resort and it was 650 dollars. Delta only paid me back $150 because that is their limit on hotel stays in that area. I’ve emailed the customer service multiple times asking for a full reimbursement but they said the best they could do was 10,000 miles. Has anyone else had an experience like this and what did you do?

Each time I call, I'm told my RUCs are in a review queue & they have put my request at the top of the queue, so I'd get them back within 24 hours.

UPDATE: Got them back!

Discussion 25+ years of flying, and this was a first for me

Last night’s flight home from MSP to CLT after a long workday in northern Minnesota was a bit of a mess.

There had been weather in the area mid-afternoon when I landed at MSP from a destination farther north. I checked my connecting flight’s inbound as soon as I landed, but I had several hours to kill, so I wasn’t too concerned.

The inbound was about 35 minutes late, which pushed us back a bit, but given the weather, it wasn’t too bad.

We finally board, buckle up, and the door closes. I put my AirPods in and start a movie, but notice we aren’t pushing back. A little while later, still no movement. I check the radar, and the storms and rain have essentially moved through.

Then the captain comes on and explains that our inbound aircraft from MEM had been operating a charter flight, and the required security sweep hadn’t been completed. He apologizes and tells us we all have to deplane with our carry-ons so the aircraft can be swept for security, after which we’ll reboard.

Full credit to the passengers on that flight: I didn’t hear a single person complain. Everyone got off quickly, and within about 30 minutes, we were boarding again.

I’ve never seen a group of people board so quickly, especially when you factor in everyone getting their luggage back into the overhead bins. It was honestly impressive.

We ended up getting to CLT about 90 minutes behind schedule, which wasn’t ideal when our scheduled arrival was already 11:50 p.m. But all things considered, I was impressed with how the crew and passengers handled it.

So, what’s the strangest or most unexpected reason you’ve ever had to deplane and then reboard?

Landed at SEA and NOT had a delay due to somebody being at your gate, no ground crew available, randomly needing to stop on the road that connects the runways somewhere and sit for 10 minutes?

Anyone?

Help/Advice 1hr ATL at 7pm

Is a 1hr 8min layover in ATL enough ? I'm flying to Savannah and have a connection in ATL but I am worried considering the flight lands at 7pm so could be affected by earlier delays. I know everyone says that it is easy as long as it is on time but I am just worried since it is also the week before thanksgiving, that I'm going to miss it. The other problem is that there really is no other option lol all of the flights out of my home airport are late

Discussion Help regarding Delta Co-op Interview I had and the timeline

I was told at the start that the interview would consist of behavioral questions followed by a technical scenario and finally maybe going over my resume. Overall, I think I did pretty good. I answered the behavioral questions using STAR with good examples and kept it pretty conversational, I didn't sound like a robot and I made them laugh a little. I did stumble a bit on the technical question but eventually worked my way to the correct answer.

Towards the end, I asked a few questions, including one they said they'd never been asked before and thought was a good question.

What concerns me is that they never asked about my resume, so I brought it up myself and asked if they wanted to go over it since they said they would like to talk about some parts of it at the start. They said they already had everything they needed. I also had offered to show some pictures/videos of my engineering projects that I had pulled up, but they declined on that too.

Now I'm wondering if I'm overthinking it or if they just weren't that interested in moving forward with me since they changed their mind on going over my resume and said they're good on viewing my projects.

Also, for anyone who's interviewed with Delta TechOps, how long did it take to hear back? It's been about 1.5 weeks, and I've already sent a thank-you email mentioning that I'd definitely accept if offered (They still haven't responded yet). I heard that it usually takes a while but I also heard that if they wanted you they would send an offer within the week. But I'm not sure how true this is since my friend had gotten an offer around a month after her interview.

Thank you all!!
