Johnny Harris - I don’t get democracy discussion
https://youtu.be/O7LvhSQ5Te4What do you all think of this video? I thought it was informative though the framing felt a little contrived. Anything they missed or got wrong?

Call me old fashioned, but back in the day democracy meant being sorted into one of 10 tribes and getting elected to serve in the jury and congress through a dice falling out of a random machine guided by the fateful hand of the gods. We did it to keep the ologarchs from getting back in control.
Might be something to that.

This is the best post in the history of this subreddit and it's EXACTLY what I envisioned we'd talk about all the time in this sub when I created it all those years ago.

Brings up some basic points, soundtrack is nice, visuals are entertaining, and Harris has a very approachable style. But Johnny Harris content is basically slop pushing ideologically neoliberal viewpoints as "common sense."
Like how he dismisses any society that removes campaign finance and promotes economic equality as fake democracies in the beginning of the video, critiques those same things in liberal democracies, but ends up concluding its all just give and take (but we know only liberal, capitalist democracies are even in that category).
