Pictures/Videos My first encounter with Depeche Mode!

It was 1985 but I still remember it, even if I was really young. I never met them personally because my shyness always made things awkward, like when I saw Martin walking dressed like in the first picture that day, well I froze, I couldn't move and I couldn't talk. But I made up for it, because I saw them performed there.

For me, these photos are really special, because I remember them 3 days very well. I have always known of the photos that have been in the public domain for many years.

I'm aware that some of these photos were put up in a post last week, but to me, all of these photos have a special and personal meaning.

You are very welcome.

This photos for me always had and still have a special place in my heart, because of the memories that they bring back for me, even if quite a few years have passed. Depeche Mode came to my town and performed at the music event that was taking place every year and done the photos that I posted.

And yeah, with Fletch when it happened, what a shock, because I didn't expect it. At all.

Wow what precious memories and still remember them that well. What is the place by the lake if you don’t mind sharing it. Very special photos 🤗

I was really pleased when I attended the music event that was taking place every year in my town, which it's Riva del Garda on Lake Garda in the north of Italy and I managed to see them there as well. But me managing to approach them outside, well different story, because I became like a statue, I was transfixed.

The music event that was taking place in Riva was called "La Vela d'Oro" and it was shown on the TV. It was a 3 days event that was taking place every year in September and we had music artists from Italy, plus artists/groups from the UK and the US. Through the years the format was changed and if I'm correct the last Vela d'Oro was in 1993.

The pictures where Dave wear the tartan jacket and drinking and photo 2, they are in Malcesine at the Corsaro, a place that it's not there anymore.

Are you the blonde woman in the seocnd.photo?

u/CyclamenTN92 Black Celebration 5d ago

Nah, I'm not the blonde woman in the second photo, even if I was blonde then and still now ( bleached). The second photo was taken when they went to Malcesine.

u/GuyFawkes99 5d ago

Ah ok. Do you have any DM photos of that time?

Nah, I'm sorry. All of the photos that I had about everything in my life, I lost them all when more than 20 years ago, I gave it to a "friend of mine" to look after, when I found myself in a difficult situation. And this "friend" chucked all of my stuff away.

I would have liked at the time, because I was really young not to be as shy and found the courage to approach them, but my shyness had other ideas.

Thank you so much.

To me because the photos represent when they came to my town, they have a really special place in my heart, because I still remember it.

Cool, but Depeche Mode weren’t really Depeche Mode until Alan Wilder left. Playing the Precious and ULTRA were peak, raw Depeche Mode. The intro for Sisters of Night and the entirety of Uselink makes my 67 lock in from how cool AF it is. Still lingers in my head even though I haven’t heard Ultra in a long while and Exciter’s exciting too

I was holding back actually. Where’s the revolution, to me, is the best Depeche Mode song. You could tell how much Martin was held back by Alame Wilder all those years

LOL. Solid troll mate, I give you that.

Nah. I wrote this by myself.

Oh. Well… Ultra is also my favorite DM album, but this is a weird thing to post in response to these photos.

OP: thank you for posting these!

You are very welcome.

Every time that I looked at this photos, it's like if I have been brought back to that time.

The place where the pictures were taken is called Riva del Garda and it's on the Lake Garda in the north of Italy. I was born there and grew up there, until my twenties when I moved to the UK.

Photo 2 was taken in Malcesine that's another town on Lake Garda.

Nice, I visited Iseo in Lombardy once, a beautiful lake! Second I saw that distinctive of that region yellow building  by water and green mountains in background I thought oh it could be it

3

u/CyclamenTN92 Black Celebration 4d ago

Oh whao, you have been there? I'm pleased that you liked it. Lake Iseo is one of the 4 lakes in the north of Italy and as you said they all have a particular look, that if you have been there like you, you would recognised it. The part of lake Garda where I come from is in the Trentino Alto Adige region and most people would know Lake Como because of singers/ actors like Sting, George Clooney etc bought houses/villas there, but actually Lake Garda is the biggest of the other 3, lake Iseo, lake Idro and lake Como. Depeche Mode found themselves so at ease in my town that when they came, they were walking around the town and no one was disturbing them or been on their case. Even others artists that came to that music event were doing the same.

Yeah such beautiful area indeed, took bus from Bergamo to Sarnico and hiked at least half of Iseo lake on west side heading north, so many Hollywood related billboards encountered along way good times!

Whatever you’re smoking… I’ll definitely pass. Been a Depeche fan since the beginning. Move along child.

u/Lowman246 3d ago

I’ve been a depeche fan before the birth of adam and eve. I saw Martin in Adam’s eyes and Dave in Eve’s nose. I was there before there was a beginning. I was there before all creation

Now, move along child

Bwahahaha. Still not smoking what you’re smoking.

I am sorry, but Alan is the face and soul of DM. Alas, "The Clapper" was a friend and Charlie was an outsider.

A choice between a musical genius and a friend was obvious to D+M.

It was a bad choice...

Nonsense.
