Find a used ddj-400 or ddj-flx4. Those are great entry level controllers that will set you up in rekordbox which is the industry standard should you ever transition to playing on club equipment.

Checkout equipment on a budget at shopgoodwill.com. There are usually controllers there, and pretty much anything else you might need on the world of prosumer electronics if you watch it for a few weeks. We got a very expensive short throw projector we use on stage for less than $100 a couple of years ago.

Start buying music. Watch documentaries on the genres you want to DJ, learn where it started and where itβs now.
Maybe use virtual dj for a while.

Start making mixtapes at home. Figure out how music fits together without the pressure of technical mastery of equipment. It will teach you more about curating music and help you find your vibe which is 90% of being a "good" DJ. The rest can be learned over time.

You don't need to buy anything, if you have a computer you can just download VirtualDJ for free and use your existing music collection to have a play around. If you enjoy it with a mouse and keyboard you will love it on a controller, then spend some money.

A pair of Soundlab DLP-1600s and a KAM GM25 mixer.
β¦if you can persist on those bad boys youβll definitely be a star.
Probably.

I had 1 soundlab with a mixer and mixed over tapes for 6 months until I bought some Technics.

Cool! I can answer! What is your budget? Do you have any dj goals before you spend money? Are you doing this as a fun hobby, to play for friends and family?
What is your plan to learn the skills? Do you have any dj friends that can teach you? Or will you teach yourself by watching videos? Do you have any musical background?
