Question Advice For Foot Problem

I play electronic drums for fun and exercise. Over the years I have developed problems with my left foot both to its arch and metatarsals.

I don't think drums are the cause but I think it contributes.

So I am looking for advice on protecting my foot and not aggravating my injury.

Thanks

I'm currently in an aircast due to joint capilitis in my toe. I can still play easily. Double bass gets sloppy. Its on my left foot fyi and im a righty.

man i had something similar a while back, arch pain that just wouldn't quit. what worked for me was switching to a lighter pedal spring tension and making sure i wasn't stomping through the beater. took a couple weeks of being real conscious about it but it helped a ton

First of all, just the same way you should keep a loose grip, you should stay conscious of not clenching your feet. You can get repetitive stress injuries in your lower extremities the same way you can in the upper ones.

Otherwise? This is where I take off my drum advice hat and put on my shoe advice hat. Read this, posted from my old account, which will lay out all the ways you can help issues like this away from the kit. Most foot problems begin and end with your choice of footwear. That post will tell you how to choose wisely.

Thanks...my podiatrist has helped me with my shoes and my foot has improved a lot which is why I want to get back into drumming. So you are saying I should be using what he prescribed for me while I am drumming.

That makes total senses. I used to drum barefoot - the electronic drum's hat pedals are pretty lightweight and i never have a problem with the kick pedal foot.

So now I am going to learn to play with shoes and my inserts.

Thanks again...
