Football I wonder about recruits visiting Eugene

I remember reading an article about all the bigtime recruits and commits that were visiting Eugene for the UCLA game

I wonder how recruits felt seeing their prospective team perform so badly. It HAS to affect their perception of the Ducks negatively, doesn't it?

I also wonder how weird it must be for the people hosting or chaperoning these recruits having to try to keep positive after such a devastating loss

The way the team performs almost never matters at all. The game is a small part of the overall visit and is more to show them the gameday environment than the team on the field

Yeah our problem will never be recruiting. Hell look at A&M for example they are an endless disappointment year after year and still get top recruiting classes because at the end of the day it’s about the money. A recruit ain’t gonna play for another school for half the paycheck just because Oregon is looking mid.

What we need to worry about is talent evaluation, development, game prep, clearly that shit is where we are lacking the croots will keep on coming.

Despite what the CFB video games would have you believe, I think recruiting visits are a lot more about touring the facilities, meeting the team, and taking in the game day atmosphere than the result of the actual game.

I don't know, man. If I were a recruit at the UCLA game and saw how poorly utilized our skill players were and how inept the coaches looked, I'd be concerned about development and what kind of player they would turn me into.

Yeah but then the coaches coach speak to how Dante was out and how poor QB play handicapped them. They can explain it away pretty easily if the money is right.

They can also then ham it up about how if said recruit was on the field right now they'd complete change the game for us

Yeah, that’s what a lot of people seem to forget about all these athletes in all sports. Their belief in themselves and their arrogance that makes them think, well if I was here we would’ve won.

If they win: “come here and you’ll dominate like the players you saw today”

If they lose: “come here and you’ll get playing time over the players you saw today”

Good point. I'm sure the world class facilities and the large paycheck would overshadow our terrible play on the field.

But did they see the uniforms?! Jokes aside, yes, losing games has never helped recruit good players.

NIL. This isn't the pre-2020 recruiting era anymore.

Even before NIL, the recruiting experts said on the field performance on the game day was rarely an issue. It's about the experience, the attention, the atmosphere, how well they vibe with the staff and other recruits, etc. And now, NIL too.

Can’t really erase how much success this program has had the last 4 years. One down year isn’t going hurt our efforts on the recruiting trail. Hell, I think we can finish 8-5 and not be that impacted. If the 2027 team comes out and plays like this and can’t compete for a spot in an expanded playoff field then it’s a different story.

The game sucked but they still saw Autzen rocking out, they saw the football operations center and the Mo, they saw the campus, they felt the Eugene vibe, they saw they unbelievable new facilities that are nearing completion, they met players and staff. The game was a very small part of it all. If Oregon loses any recruits it isn’t because of that game.

Hopefully the allure of bringing the first natty to Eugene is still there.

$, and you forget athlete swagger that amounts to "I can fix her" energy.

One of my buddies dads is in the "system" he has a farm in creswell and they meet any "country" recruits out there and go bass fishing in his pond with the coaches in return for season tickets. Plot twist he's a beaver fan and sells the tickets 😂

we are entering a death spiral unless something changes quickly. Recruits don't want to go to losing programs, even our current starters are probably wondering if they should transfer out. People like Dakorien Moore and Jamari Johnson could probably put up monster numbers elsewhere, anywhere that has a competent offense.

Some of you are so painfully spoiled. We lost 1 game early and then another with a backup QB. We aren’t in a “death spiral” lol. It’s an unfortunate year where we lost our top nfl prospect QB. The OC hire was a massive miss tho no one can deny that
