University Those who have recently done Nursing at OP, how was applying?
Hi! :)
I’m currently a high school student and I’m hoping to study nursing at Otago Polytechnic in the future.
I spoke to some lovely people from Otago Polytech at a careers expo this year, and they told me a bit about the application process. One thing I remember very clearly was being told that volunteering can help your application stand out. Unfortunately, she was a very fast speaker, so I didn’t manage to remember much else of what she said.
For anyone who has applied to or studied nursing at Otago Polytech in the past 10 years:
- Did you do any volunteering, and did you feel like it helped your application?
- What do you think are the most important things to have on your application?
- Do you need to be exceptionally good at subjects like biology and chemistry, or are Achieved grades generally okay?
- Does anyone know roughly how many people apply compared with how many are accepted each year? I think I heard that over 500 people applied this year, but I might be wrong lol
- Is there anything else you would recommend doing during high school to make my application stronger?
- I'm only taking biology next year since I'm not the biggest fan of chem. Will that still be okay? Chemistry is still one of my backups, though. I haven't failed any science assement this year.
I’m obviously not in any rush to apply (especially since applications have already closed), but I’d love to hear from anyone who has gone through the process so I can prepare well!
Thank you!!
