wheelchair usage

Im sorry i don’t feel like providing a backstory for my question😭 but I have heard that people with achondroplasia will rent wheelchairs sometimes, so what types of wheelchairs are usually rented and for what kind of occasions? Or do you ever do this at all??

Wheel chairs or mobility scooter? I’ve not heard of renting. But maybe places like Disney have something like that for rent. Most people own them and try to get them through their insurance.

I was wondering about types of wheelchairs because i know there are several types but i’m not very familiar with them. Also I have heard that wheelchairs can be expensive sometimes which is why they are rented but i’m not sure how accurate that is?? also even if it’s not relevant to the initial post, any info about any mobility aids would be helpful

Reach out to a local place that sells aids like this and see if they know about any rental programs or such. I’ve never heard of such a thing, but individual shops and local nonprofits can all do things differently so I don’t want to say it’s not a thing. I’d start with your nearest disability rights org and a home health aid organization that’s local.

They are expensive. People usually have to wait for the insurance to go through to get one, but there are some more inexpensive jazzy scooters. If you have dwarfism, a regular wheelchair is not going to work and a pediatric manual chair can be hard to maneuver just fyi.
