I often see topics offering very soft and vague limits for health, but I want like a true best case scenario.

What if you do 40% to 60%? If you drive 50 miles every day, wouldn't it be best to vary your charge the least and right in the middle of the charge limit for regular use? You start the day at 60%, get home at 40%, and then charge it back up to 60% for the next day. Is it better to do 50% to 70% or 30% to 50%?

Edit: I got some really good and clear advice. Do not leave it at high or low charge for long periods. For my regular schedule, I can charge up to say 60 and leave it there for several days without any issue. Also, leaving it in a cool place was also advised, which is good for hotter places like where I live. Thank you all!

I'm going to be staying at an apt complex that doesn't have chargers, but has 14-50 outlets to plug into. I want to be able to secure my charger to help prevent theft. All I can find are boxes to secure to a wall.

I'm heading up I-5 next week, and ABRP tells me to charge at Seven Feathers Electric Era chargers at the Umpqua Casino OR. It says cost = 0.

Plugshare has an entry but no reviews. The casino website does not mention it.

Is it real? Do you have to go into the casino or something?

I ask because it is the only non-Tesla NACS charger between Medford and Eugene.

UPDATE: I figured it out. In PlugShare I was clicking on the casino that ABRP mentions instead of the truck center across the street. The casino website also talks about the truck center but doesn’t mention chargers.

Thanks everyone!

Automakers and battery manufacturers recommend charging to 80% to prevent high voltage stress and battery degradation, and battery charging speed slows down significantly after 80%, a limit that doesn’t exist for gas tanks. An honest battery range discussion should focus on the 80% range, not 100%.

This article has to be rage bait.

Body text

I figured I would try to post this story here, because it's really frustrating. I was hopeful maybe it could somehow be seen enough to get some help.

I have a chargepoint home flex model mounted to the outside of my house. I bought it secondhand, but it was fully functional. I discovered today it's out of warranty (4 years old) but that's only part of the issue here. I connected it to my account, and wifi, without any real issues. The wifi didn't seem super strong or reliable, but our house is cinderblock, so I wasn't really surprised.

Anyway, I decided I would try to upgrade our network from one AP to a mesh system to make it work better in general. Our AP was old anyway, so it was needed, but part of the reasoning behind it was to get it to connect more reliably. I set up all my devices on the new network, which has a different name and password. I went outside to reconfigure wifi via the chargepoint app and.. it said it couldn't find the charger. I tried multiple times. I flipped breaker off, waited, tried again. Tried again. No luck.

I didn't expect it to be super helpful, but I contacted chargepoint support, who advised me to do... Exactly what I already was. But I did it with them on the phone anyway. Flip breaker, wait two minutes, flip it again, try to connect to no avail.

After a few tries the tech suggested that the only way forward was to remove the charger from my chargepoint account and then to try to reconfigure it that way. Not sure how that would be different, but ok. This was the critical failure point. I said "ok, sure." And the charger was removed. It still wouldn't connect to my phone. They then emailed me a generous 10% off coupon to buy.. another charger.

Frustrating, but what could you do? It's secondhand, I get it. Oh well. Right?

Well about a half hour later I had an idea which really irritated me. I spoofed the old wireless network on my phone as a hotspot and.. the charger connected to the network successfully. ONLY NOW IT IS NOT ASSOCIATED TO MY ACCOUNT. Uh oh! Trying to reconnect to the old network would have been a really good, albeit uncommon troubleshooting step.

I called chargepoint back. "I got it reconnected to the old network! You removed it from my account and you have all the details, surely you could re-associate it with my account!" No. Can I talk to a supervisor? Surely someone has that power. I know this is all database related on the backend from other horror stories about account associations with chargers.

They said yes I could talk to a supervisor, and then never contacted me again via email or phone. Now I have a dumb charger.

The cable is nice, but I wouldn't recommend buying from chargepoint. I found out today that this is a really common, often dreaded failure and that chargepoint has no plans in place to remedy it. I definitely wouldn't buy secondhand at least.

Historically I’ve had many fast fun cars (WRX, GTI, G35) as a younger adult as I love engine noise, handling, etc. When I started a family I moved into trucks for my vehicle, but do not use them for work, just:

Runs to the dump with bags of grass, leaves, etc.
Off chance picking up furniture, replacing appliances, etc.
Stuff for my kid’s school
Large donations to goodwill (family will do this, lol)

I drive about 15k miles a year, currently get 16 MPG, and can have a charger installed in our home easily and will charge 99% at home I believe. It does get cold here for ~4 months a year and snow some which I understand impacts range.

Ultimately, I think we could be just fine without a truck (could get a Lightning but am trying to stay around $30k used and under both bumper to bumper and battery warranty, though I could make it work) but am curious how many people ditched their truck for an ID4, BMW i4, or similar small ish SUV or cars in a similar position? We do still have an ICE that seats 7 and would likely be our primary road trip vehicle.

Would you buy another EV? Would you buy a truck EV that’s no longer being produced?

Hey electrons,

This is the second month in this new format, incorporating both NACS and CCS, as long as the station is open to essentially all modern EVs with an appropriate adapter.

For your convenience when traveling without an adapter, I also note whether each station offers CCS, NACS or both.

I'm also reporting the network provider for the first time.

Yes, the post is long. I suggest scrolling to the states that interest you.

Here are all of the new US and Canadian CCS and NACS (Level 3 fast-charging) universal stations that rolled out in September 2026, according to the US Department of Energy and the fine community at supercharge.info. You can get the data yourself here and here.

These chargers are suitable for most EVs on the market. If a charger is marked only as "NACS" and you only have a CCS port, or vice versa, then you need an adapter. Adapters are cheap and readily available for modern EVs.

Some of these chargepoints will be "refreshes," e.g. the provider replaced them with faster chargers etc. Some may be incorrect. This report is only as good as the data sources.

There were 240 universal charging stations with a total of 1,601 chargepoints added or refreshed in September 2026. This is an increase from 193 and 1,214 in August.

59 new and updated stations are Tesla superchargers, with 698 chargepoints. 181 new and updated stations are non-Tesla fast chargers, with 903 chargepoints.

NOTE: some Tesla superchargers listed here have short cords, which means you may have to take up two spots or park creatively in a non-Tesla vehicle. This can be true even if your car has a NACS port.

Exceptions: cars that can't use these (mostly for old EVs)

• The pre-2026 Nissan Leaf, and other CHAdeMO vehicles (almost all discontinued), cannot use these chargers. At least not without a more expensive adapter. See my separate post in r/leaf.
• A handful of discontinued CCS EVs (Ford Focus EV, Vinfast EV) are not able to use the NACS-only Tesla stations that normally welcome other EVs with an adapter. They should be able to use the non-Tesla stations marked as CCS.
• Teslas manufactured before late 2021 may need a retrofit from Tesla in order to use a non-Tesla fast charger, no matter what plug it offers. They should be able to use the Tesla stations mentioned in this report.

Other Notes

To streamline this post, multi-chargepoint locations are listed with the number of chargepoints first.

For serious trip planning, I recommend PlugShare. But by all means check out these reported new locations and submit reviews on PlugShare, which makes things better for everyone.

I am currently driving a 2021 Tesla Model Model 3 Standard Range Plus with about 120k mi and accumulated some cosmetic and software damage (rear black plastic valance not fully attached, a dent on the front, curb rashes, biodegrading leather on the steering wheel and armrest, separated drivers' seat and power seat controls since Day 1 of ownership, and a HW3 autopilot system that intermittently turns off every few months for months on end and an accelerator which intermittently squeaks every few months). I bought it on 25 June 2024 with 45k mi for around 25k and loved the car as it has taken me to multiple states and halfway around the country (east of the Mississippi river) multiple times with no issues. I drove the car to states like Texas, Florida, Minnesota, and even in active snowstorms. I never required it towed, and even though between late 2025 and mid 2026, I drove the car to the Tesla service centre about 5-10 times for routine maintenance, I never had to spend more than 1-2 hours each visit. My Tesla now does approximately 140-160 mi of range from 100 to 0 and I have to charge it every 80-100 mi for 30 minutes to get from 10-80%.

The 15 inch screen works perfectly and the car takes me from point A to point B, never leaving me stranded, except perhaps in the snow where I had to be pushed out, but still, I have driven this car in active snowstorms from one state to the other.

I am curious how other EVs fare on road trips, including those from Polestar, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Audi, and Volvo. I know some are capable of charging at Tesla Superchargers via an NACS to CCS adapter or via native NACS and EA/ChargePoint are adding new chargers constantly. However, I heard inconsistent reviews with EA/ChargePoint stations with one claiming that it costed him $1 a minute after 15 minutes of free use.

Serious Answers only.

I’ve had this thought for a while now: VW’s legal obligation to fund EA ends at the end of this year. While that doesn’t mean Electrify America is going to stop existing, VW seems pretty committed to EA, as they have been spending and doing more than legally required with the network. But since their obligation to fund Electrify America as an independent charging network is soon ending, I think this brings up an interesting proposition: merging Electrify America and IONNA.

Personally, I think there’s a real proposition made for this. In Europe, VW is already a part of a coalition of automakers behind a charging network, IONITY, which IONNA is largely modeled after. Basically every automaker in IONITY is a part of IONNA, besides VW, which never joined IONNA because they were legally bound to deal with their own charging network (and Ford, which I don’t really know why they’re a part of IONITY but absent from IONNA). But like I said, now that VW is soon to be free of the legal obligation to run EA as a separate entity, it has a real chance to join North America’s IONITY, IONNA gets a bunch of charging land, stations, permits, complete electrical work, etc. and VW doesn’t have to manage a charging network on their own.

There of course will be the challenge of merging management and the fact that they do use different charging units for the most part, but I do still think that could very well be viable.

I do feel it could make sense, but I could be missing some things, just throwing thoughts around. What do you guys think about this theoretical?

I had a screen protector on my CRV which ended up cracking a bit and being a PIA. I am not really feeling the reason for one. If you use one has it ever saved your screen?

For ideological reasons, I really want to transition to an EV. (I would say it is my way of sticking it to the Man, except now the Man is named Elon so I'd be a hypocrite). However, I live in a townhouse and do not have a garage or driveway. I don't want to run an extension cord from my house to the street. I could take the car to a fast charger in town, but as you all know much better than me, that is not ideal time or cost-wise. I am retired, so there is no place at work I can charge. I suppose I could ask the HOA for permission to install a charging post near my house, but I'm not willing to go that far.
