Where are the bars at?
Just moved here for Grad school, but ubering from Ann Arbor back here every weekend sounds trash.
Just wondering if there was a grad in this Reddit or upper class man that knew where to go to get a drink around here after the long week.

Wax bar, Red Rock BBQ, Monty's, Thompsons, MASH, Water Tower Distillery, Ypsilanti Cocktail Club. Most are within a mile or two from Eastern.

Where do most the other college kids drink?

I can't speak for Eastern. For Michigan they drink in Ann Arbor. I'm in grad school and drink at all those places.

Good time Charley’s is a bit of a young scene it feels like. I’m in my unc era. Dive bars are where I thrive

Powell ‘s, Sticks. That’s where I’d pregame before going to AA. I also bartended at Blue Lep & Brown Jug so I had connections in AA.

Taproom might be your best bet. Reagle Beagle if you are up for a weird fun time.

I was not a fan of the crowd in tap room last night. It scared me right out 😅

What was scary about it? (We don't have that many places, so the alternatives are limited)

I think it was more about it being my first night actually trying to find a place to go on my own. I don’t have any friends who live in the area so walking around Ypsi, which is weirdly progressive yet kinda hoodish compared to say Ann Arbor or where I hail from, was a bit of a culture shock maybe? It felt like when I walked into Tap Room the air was thick and looked like cigarette smoke, and was filled with locals. There wasn’t a seat at the bar for me.
I’m not trying to say these are bad things, like at all, but it was definitely a surprise. I think the atmosphere was off. Scary is probably not the correct word.

Oh, it can be intimidating for sure. As you get settled into ypsi, I think you will find most of us here are open to a new person saying hi. Tap room is a good place to go with someone you know. I'm not sure of a bar for solo folks, as I am mid 40s and married. But much of downtown is dead. So I wish you luck and maybe belly up to the bar at sidetracks, cause that's where i drank as an undergrad

I went there to draft in my dynasty football league haha. I was kinda disappointed they didn’t open earlier. But glad to know it might be the spot

Powells secretly also has awesome food like steak sandwiches... its a good spot. Corner brewery is chill and has mixed spaces. Can always go down to Depot Town, the bar scene there is primarily inside restaurants. In downtown Tap Room is ancient and really remains the only pure "bar".

My friends and I have always gone to Sticks, they have free karaoke! Drinks aren’t too expensive either and usually pretty heavily poured.

Powells, Taproom, Sticks, Ziggys, Depot Town in general has alot of bars, same with Downtown, Sticks isn't a bad time, neither is Powells.
