Damn, is there a non anniversary version being pressed on vinyl? I've wanted this for years, but I don't want to spend $165 for six damn vinyls.
Just a regular repress of the original album would be great...

On the flaming lips website they have it there for $124.99. Not sure why Rough Trade is selling for more than that.

The Yoshimi vinyl box has dropped down around $60 - $70, I would imagine the same things gonna happen with this one. I’m definitely gonna wait on it until the price collapses.

Likewise I assume the material not included in the vinyl boxset, mostly live, will get releases throughout the next few years.

Was wondering the same. I just want the album on vinyl, and not the whole set.

Welp, considering this is my favorite album from them, I'll have no choice but to get this

Mystics era had, arguably, some of the best Bsides and Soundtrack only songs. I can't wait for those to get some re-releases.
Looking forward to most: -Enthusiasm for Life (pt.1) both the lyric and instrumental version -im afraid of dying...aren't you -no quarter / unmade bed -Gold in the Mnt of our Madness -Bohemian Rhapsody
Some live cuts. The playing Mountainside on that long long tour a few times
Maybe we'll see some Stardeath demos /features

You gotta hold on too! I have no idea how those b-sides didn’t make it on the album

Well ..if you look at the 5.1 release they did. I think, it's been awhile. It's fair to day that, long in time love pit members, will have a majority of these non album songs in some MP3 form. But I'm stoked for this anniversary release of Mystics.

I did not know about the 5.1 release, I’ll have to check that out. I have had playlist I put together that mixes in the b-sides to the album, but I’m interested to see how they would have sequenced it

So the release is 5.1 of the standard album (with cosmic dancer visuals).
Then it had Bsides Why does it end You gotta hold on Gold Mnt of Madness Time travel?? Yes!! Bohemian Rhapsody
Then radio appearances and remixes Cosmic autumn Goin on Unmade bed/ No quarter Vien Vien (operatic spook) Yeah³ (chicken fried....) Yeah³ (anatropous) [imo-this is a jem]
But to your point: I would love to see a reworked tracking of Mystics; with cut material put in place. I always preferred "I'm afraid of dying" to the album version of overtakes me.
Back in the day Kliph put Yoshimi together in this way. It got a very small release , but the mp3s were in circulation. I'd love to here Kliphs perspective on that Yoshimi recut and the could have been for Mystics

Fuck, any word on a full track list?

Their website shop page flaminglips.com.
Pretty solid track listing. Years ago I spend so much time tracking down every single CD single so I could get all the b-sides.

Holy shit official release of Smoking a J With the Fearless Freaks! One of my most favorite pieces of music from the Lips!

This. I love that little instrumental ditty. I hope it's not the talk over intro from the FF promo cd

Honestly never thought this would be the album to receive any kind of deluxe treatment. Happy they're doing it though!

man this looks awesome. I hope they release the cd only concerts on vinyl for RSD - I assume they will like they did for Yoshimi set, if I remember correctly

I’m really excited for “ 14x previously unreleased studio recordings”!
I assume the other 42 are just live

The Yoshimi anniversary collection ended up on on Spotify, I wouldn't doubt this will as well.

‘For the upcoming re-release of their 2006 album, the complete collection of material featured on the CD edition will later be made available across vinyl releases too.’

All I want is a vinyl copy of the original album or maybe a few extra bonus tracks. I'm not buying a 6 LP set. I love the flaming lips but the way the band is managed these days feels so misjudged and greedy. Not happy.

u/Any-Bother-3362 17d ago
Nothing suggesting that don’t happen, Yoshimi got a stand alone release outside the boxset.

u/Successful_Yak_5537 17d ago
fair enough, I'll chill and wait. but I still get the vibe they're milking their legacy

I’m with you. Though I’ve lost interest in new stuff with it just being The Wayne Coyne Experience, so I’m all for archive releases and in fairness, this does look pretty packed and CD wise reasonable price.
But like with Yoshimi, I’ll just wait for price drops on everything.
Hopefully something similar happens for Soft Bulletin and I’d be very interested if they bother/what they do for Embryonic and The Terror.

I think I’ll end up getting CD and vinyl boxed sets. I thought I had most of the non-album tracks from this era, but there’s tracks on here I’ve never even heard of before.
Curious to hear how the vinyl sounds. The original pressing was cut by Kevin Grey, and it sounds amazing, an order of magnitude better than the CD. Hopefully the super loud brick wall mastering of the original CD has been dialed back on the remaster.

Sweet! Now, the question is, will they do a 2+ year tour commemorating it like they did Yoshimi.

Really hope Steven, Michael, and Kliph aren’t magically erased from all of the photos in the liner notes.
Michael was not in a single photo on the Yoshimi special edition and it was pretty gross
