General Discussion I spent a year digging through the movie "Hackers".
Hey everyone - so one of my hobbies is vintage computing, and of course, I love movies, so every once in a while I like to go through an old movie and go "Okay, that's not REALLY how that works..."
I also make youtube videos about vintage computing, so 2 years ago I did a video on 'Wargames' - that was a lot of fun, and people seemed to like it.
This time I did Hackers - let me tell ya - this isn't a good movie. Lets get that out of the way. It's hollywoody weirdo coverage of a culture that they thought they could make a buck off of. They descend into ridiculous moody camp that just doesn't fit with the vibe, while also doing to sound all technical and hard core to uneducated audiences.
There's a whole host of interesting cameos in it. Yes, everyone knows this is Angelina Jolie's first big role (she was like 17 or 18 for it), but there's a whole slew of "Heyyyy, that's..." - Fisher Stevens - pretty well known actor - he plays the baddie. But there's also Penn Jillette in a cameo role, Marc Anthony, who I didn't realize became a fairly successful musician, Jesse Bradford did a bunch of other interesting roles too.
Anyway - curious how folks feel about this work of art - video is here https://youtu.be/I-BK6mdBQhU - but I'm mostly interested in hearing feedback about the movie in general. (Having now spent a good 100+ hours editing my vid, I think I've memorized every frame of it. Did you know there's also a cameo by Dave Stewart? One half of the Eurythmics? He's on screen for about 4 seconds, but he's there :)
