Moving from nj to Orlando.

Anyone use a moving company? They said it could take 10 days to get there? Is that normal?

Im moving from michigan to frostproof, florida at the end of March with 3 other people. Im currently looking for jobs and im not using reddit as a last resort, just another resource. Most of my background consists of working in kitchens at restaurants. I am willing and able to do whatever the task may be to do better at the end of each shift. Besides that im always willing to try and learn something new. If there's any employers looking for work or any other leads I should know about please feel free to let me know! Excited to be moving to the sunshine state! Its been a dream come true.

If you’re looking for a apartment down here or in tampa you may as well get a loan like I am for a apartment because living here cost is insane. Here’s a idea lower the rent prices for everyone

Hi! I (23F) recently got offered a job in Fort Pierce. I have been recommended to look around Vero Beach and Port St Lucie. All of the Facebook roommate pages I have found do not seem to be in the same age range as me. Is there anywhere around there that younger people tend to move?

1

u/Jeskid14 Jan 25 '26

Preferably the port since that's more of a city with housing nearby

Looking to move 30-45 min outside of the Tampa Bay Area… decent schools, safe area, 3-4 bedrooms 250-350 thousand. Decent areas to look, willing to do townhouses or condos.

u/No-Truth-2068 Jan 23 '26

Why 30-45 minutes outside of Tampa? Job?

0

u/Much_Peanut6223 Jan 23 '26

Just like the area and would still like to be close to family and beaches…

0

u/No-Truth-2068 Jan 23 '26

You can find that in pinellas county

-1

u/Much_Peanut6223 Jan 23 '26

I was hoping an area like Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs, New Port Richey or even farther inland but still within 30-45 minutes of really the Clearwater area but a safer area with decent schools

u/No-Truth-2068 Jan 23 '26

Checkout trinity

u/Much_Peanut6223 Jan 23 '26

Will do! Thank you!!!!!

u/trtsmb Jan 22 '26

Decent schools and FL don't belong in the same sentence.

Do you have a job and a Florida address?

2

u/trtsmb Jan 19 '26

Update your license to your new address and get a job! No one is going to chase you down because you didn't transfer your plates right away.

I’m relocating to Tallahassee for work soon and starting to look into where to live. I’d really appreciate some local insight on the best sides of town.

Here’s what I’m aiming for:

  • Good school zones or generally family-friendly neighborhoods

  • Easy access to grocery stores, shopping, parks, etc.

  • Quieter areas, ideally away from college nightlife/party crowds

  • Prefer apartments or townhomes

  • Budget around $1800/month

Hello. I am trying to get rid of my apartment at Campus West in Tallahassee, Florida. Next to FSU. It's a 2×2 apartment and I have a roommate. He is a male, so if you are also a male, that would be perfect.

It is around $900 a month. Reply for more details.

I received a job offer in West Palm Beach with a salary of $42,000 per year. Is this a sustainable income for the area, or should I expect to struggle with the cost of living?

1

u/strange_username58 Jan 17 '26

That is not going to be an easy life.

1

u/United-Friendship304 Jan 20 '26

How bad will this be? What if the pay got up to $46k?

1

u/strange_username58 Jan 20 '26

Are you married or do you have kids? What is your current location?

1

u/United-Friendship304 Jan 22 '26

No kids no spouse , just 25 year old me. Current location ofc nyc

1

u/trtsmb Jan 13 '26

You are going to struggle.

1

u/United-Friendship304 Jan 20 '26

What if the pay got bumped to 46K? Does that make much of a difference?

Is Florida really what the rumors make it out to be?My girlfriend desperately wants to move to Florida but to be perfectly honest, I think I would hate it there. I’m a Northerner from NY and I’m currently living in NC. I think the summers here are too hot. The winters do not see any snow, and that is my favorite weather I only get to see one time of the year, I am genuinely afraid of the Florida man headlines, I hear about gators in the road, I hear the economy is piss poor, so on and so forth, but my girlfriend is *convinced* that Florida is the best state to live in. She has been there, but only to tourist destinations. Can someone from Florida either dispel my fears or reinforce my position?

1

u/trtsmb Jan 13 '26

Honestly, FL does not seem to be a good fit for you.

If you think NC is too hot, imagine hotter/humid weather for 7+ months of the year and winter is about 3 days.

The economy heavily centers on low pay service jobs that cater to the tourist industry. There are some better pay jobs but they tend to be hard to snag.

I can't say that I've ever seen a gator in the road, barring the retreads from semis. Gators are very common especially the closer you live to any freshwater.

1

u/GreatThingsTB Jan 12 '26

Realtor here.

If you think NC is hot then you probably shouldn't venture further south because it only gets hotter for longer, and less cold in the winters.

Living in Florida is significantly different from going to Disney, Key West, or Miami for a week at the beach.

The questions isn't really is it the best state to live in. The question is: Is it the state where you will be the most happy long term?

If you like really like water, sunshine, heat, humidity, no elevation change, planned communities, golf, boating, the beach, fishing those sorts of things it is a very hard place to beat. If it isn't really the place for forests, mountains, hills, cool or cold weather, historic neighborhoods, or a variety of architectural styles.

So you'll need to have a serious conversation with your girlfriend and see if you can find a happy medium.

That said, I'd much rather live in Florida than the coast and piedmont of NC which in my opinion are boring as hell. I do get a little misty eyed thinking about the mountains though.

Hi all I’m moving to the Jacksonville area with my husband. We’re 32 and about to have kids. Any thoughts on Ponte vedra beach vs San marco? We love San marco but worried about schools.

1

u/trtsmb Jan 12 '26

If you value the future education of your children stay away from FL. We have decent colleges/universities but our K-12 education is a joke.

Traffic around cities is truly awful because DeSatin and the super majority refuse to invest in infrastructure. It is insane.

My theory is that the super rich want to drive out the middle class so they can have a serfdom of workers feeding them and caring for their properties. This is why insurance is going up so hard, because the rich don’t care about insurance. This is also why they want to abolish property taxes and have already eliminated income tax. Poor people don’t own property, and have low income. Now they will increase sales taxes and fees.

Regressive taxation is the name of their game.

We like living here because we can afford to rent a sfh in a coastal area. Shit is going to get worse, and we are going to bail.

We are moving to Florida as soon as our house sells , coming down from Ga ( ATL) suburbs, did a big job in Orlando over the summer, absolutely fell in love have family in Titusville, I'm a union tradesman she's a wellness consultant, we're thinking port st lucie , north palm, we are mid, late 40s gym fanatics, AA members, love the outdoors, nude beaches and enjoying life to the fullest. We just want to rent for now..our credit is a little shot , so who could recommend some good ideas ??

3

u/witchey1 Jan 14 '26

Good luck finding a union job. Pay scale here is low.

1

u/Head_Stand_5292 Jan 14 '26

I'm transferring , I'm a journeyman think scale is around 32 an hour

Looking to move to florida from california and would love some suggestions.

35 male.

Interests - lifting, disc golf, beach, night life, hiking, and relaxing with a little ganja.

Most important - need a spot that would be affordable for someone in my salary range. Im a video editor and have retail management experience so usually working within a 40-60k range, but will probably be free-lancing at first. Perfectly fine with up to 2 roommates. Im hoping I can find an apartment complex somewhere with a a roommate hole to fill.

Im leaving California due to cost of living but before that came from PA. One big reason I cant stand PA is their obesity rates, that goes for most of the north east states. California taught me that warmer climates tend to keep people in better shape and the dating life has been infinitely better. Is this generally true for florida?

There is good chance I wont have a job lined up as this move needs to happen by end of February, for any given area are their low cost extended stay motels around or hostels of some kind? Id like to avoid sleeping in the car, however my runway for savings is not very long.

3

u/talianicolewingate Jan 12 '26

As someone who just moved from PA — Florida’s obesity is higher lol

1

u/badcreddit690 Jan 12 '26

Mathematically wrong. Ive done the research. Florida has (not much) but about 5-7% lower obesity rates. I suspect its because people in the north east have more time during the year to tuck away their bodies and not work on them. Especially true with the girls.

1

u/strange_username58 Jan 17 '26

it's definitely higher

2

u/trtsmb Jan 12 '26

Guess what, in the summer people here hide indoors and eat. We stay inside as much as possible in the summer whereas in the Northeast, you can go outdoors during that part of the year.

On a side note, ganja is not legal here and you will be arrested.

4

u/Formaldehyde007 Jan 12 '26

You will be gravely disappointed and arrested if you smoke in public.

5

u/trtsmb Jan 12 '26

Florida has no shortage of overweight people. If you have no money saved and no job lined up, stay where you are.

2

u/Difficult-Ad4364 Jan 11 '26

Look up Padsplit furnished rentals by the room. You seem like a Miami type, but it’s expensive.

Disney is not a town?

Really depends where you’re coming from for comparison.

-1

u/badcreddit690 Jan 11 '26

Coming from bay area california.

4

u/someboddies Jan 11 '26

Maybe give some details. What a question

1

u/lost_dazed_101 Jan 11 '26

Yes it's packed especially around Orlando not only with the people who live but the constant stream of visitors. Summer is when out of country usually hit then winter is huge for the US and believe it or Floridians. We live here we know how hot the summer is so we go when it's cooler. As to whether you should move here that's on you you're the one who knows what you're looking for.
